Yesterday, Sunday morning, I was travelling home from northern Virginia (visiting relative ) and decided to stop at the Green Top Hunting and Fishing store just north of Richmond. As I arrived about ten minutes before opening I noticed a long line of people (easily over a hundred) waiting in line by the front door. A county sheriff was parked nearby. I thought to myself oh yeah, maybe a big sale! As the store opened everyone marched in and started lining up inside the store along several aisles. As I went near the front of the line I noticed a display sign that announced "Handgun Purchase Line". WTH? It's 0900 on a Sunday morning and there are masses of people of all colors and creeds (a lot of ladies too) patiently waiting in line to purchase a pistol or revolver. The deputy was at a desk filling out forms. The only thing that I could surmise is that there are a lot of people out there that are scared or uneasy about what's going on in the world. Things are happening out there and ordinary folks are quietly responding and preparing for the worst.

If you ever travel north on 95 be sure to check out this store. They have a large selection of both new and used firearms, reloading equipment and supplies, and a great fishing tackle section as well.

I didn't have the heart to tell them that there was very little handgun ammo remaining on the shelves. And no assault style rifles or shotguns except a few that were in the $2,000 plus range.

Ive mentioned before a few of my observations
Last Saturday I stopped into Academy for a few, three shotguns were left, about 15 or so pistols and the same in rifles.
NO 223 or 9mm on the shelf, VERY LITTLE 12G

Popped into The Gun Store in Lexington, inquired about shotguns for a friend - nope, said he couldnt keep them on the shelves
They had plenty of decently priced 223/556, but limited how much you could buy (think 5 boxes), very little 9, very little 380, plenty of 22LR

People are worried, people are wanting a gun to protect themselves.
Good they're seeing the usefulness in a firearms when under attack.

And, yes, if there are good deals after - awesome for us!

I canā€™t imagine having to select my first gun from ā€œthe leftoversā€.

My nearest LGS (Perrys, Wendell) seems able to keep pretty well stocked, though low-priced ARs and handguns sell out quickly. They keep ammo pretty much in stock - at plague prices of course. I haven't been going as regularly because I am not in buy mode lately. Their only remaining concession to the CoV2Chaos is that they make you hit the sanitizer station on the way in.

That might not last long. Suppliers are out.

Love Green Top. I hunt up in the Norther Neck every year and we always make a stop on the way up. Liked the old store better (it was junkier) but was classic when the Big box store built across the street. Green Top would be full and not a car in their parking lot. Went out of business and Green Top took over the store! Prices are fair and if you are looking for a used rifle or shotgun, they usually have racks full. May not be the case now.

My sister asked me this weekend to help her find a handgun. She lives near Myrtle Beach, and has two young daughters. She heard about the attack that happened down there recently and was rightfully scared. I checked several of the local shops, and was able to find a nice Ruger LC9s for her. I think I bought the last one they had on the shelf.

While visiting different shops and talking to the sales guys, I noticed that virtually all of them were sold out of AR's, most had very few tactical style handguns (Glocks, Sigs, etc) but revolvers were mostly untouched. One shop was totally sold out of ammo, and Mace Sports had ammo, but was limiting pistol ammo purchases to those customers who were also buying a gun to insure that first time gun buyers could get some ammo too. The sales guy at Mace said its been Black Friday levels of busy every day for the past week. There were at least a dozen people gathered up around the table they have set up to do the computer form 4473's

One of the sales guys told me that when the riots first started last week, they sold every gun in the store. Said he had one lady buy an expensive over/under trap gun for self defense because it was the only shotgun he had left.

I love to stop in the Gun Rack in Kernersville when i am in that area, stopped last Saturday and I honestly thought they were going out of buisness. Lady said they had been cleaned out everyday for the last few weeks.

Also said they were getting out of selling reloading supplies which SUCKS because they had the best prices around on primers and powders :(

Wasnā€™t the Gun Rack burglarized recently?

Times, theyā€™re a changin

Sucks big time. One of the only places around.

I dropped in my local shop last week, and I hadn't been in one since early February??? and I couldn't believe it...ā€¦ It was worse than when Obama got elected. I have never seen that place so wiped out.

If ā€œthis messā€ ever ends, thereā€™s gonna be lots of never-shot guns for sale, cheap. :D
That's what I thought at first, but we're 4-5 months in so far and things keep getting worse. Lately I've been thinking that a whole lot of people are going to just go back to the "just in case" model of having something tucked away in their closet. Yes, some will let them go for cheap, but I feel like the country hasn't seen anything even remotely resembling this for 50 years. People aren't going to forget fast

You get over it if you practice. My first pistol was a compact .40 because the sales guys wanted to get me a $700 H&K instead of a $300 ruger. I was dumb enough to buy it. Still have it. even for the stout .40 round, that gun is way overbuilt.

Something's in the air...do you smell it? It's called FREEDOM! But freedom has price, and it's more expensive than most are willing to pay. Communism never dies easily, and our rights...they are being taken by force. The only way Americans can secure those rights, and the blessings of Liberty...well I'm sure you guys know the rest. I pray for you all, I pray for our Country, I pray for peace, but prepare for War.

I used to stay in a hotel right near Green Top for work and would go every time I was there. I bought several used rifles from them.

I was in Lincoln, NE, for the past week and there are plenty of guns and ammo there. I believe Deguns had every current handgun made on display. They had plenty of rifles, shotguns and AR's. They had 9mm and 5.56 amm0 stacked on pallets near the door. 9mm was $229/1000 and 5.56 was around $400/1000, all brass American made.

They had Hodgdon powder for $19.99/lb and CCI and Winchester primers for $23.99/1000. Every where we went, they were out of small rifle and pistol primers.

Also, if you go to Lincoln, make sure to check out Scheels Sporting Goods, huge place with a lot of stuff.

I just went to their website. Those prices must be for in store only because what little they showed in stock was high priced on the web.
