Is that one of those flu bugs that I keep hearing about?

There is a university lab you can send it to, for like $5 they’ll tell you. It’s a long running project for grad students in entomology.

Maybe NCSU, but I don’t recall.

What he said above. Another name for it is Wheel Bug. If it looks like this from a side view, get away from it or kill it if it's inside your house. They are beneficial to have around so if you can safely catch it and get it outside, that would be the thing to do.

This is from Wiki:

As a cautionary warning, the bite of a wheel bug is generally considered to be of greater severity in terms of the level and duration of pain than the sting of common insects like wasps.[5] The resulting wound is documented to be extremely painful, lasting, and lingering, accompanied by an unceasing numbness which can persist for days. These effects can be avoided by handling the docile insect with gloves.

Sorry. Here's the pic. I couldn't insert it in my previous post for some strange reason.

Doesn't appear to be a kissing/assassin/wheel bug, as they are all true bugs, which means their wings fold to show an X or V pattern. Looks like a straight line down the back, which means beetle, and with the proboscis, I'm going with weevil, as @Button Pusher claimed. It's also their time of year.

Yeah I hate wheel bugs I think my property is the breeding grounds for said bug we have them everywhere so far I haven’t been bitten.

As far as the bug in the op I think it is a bol weevil

I agree it's s weevil. Not sure it's a boll weevil though.

Why would you hate wheel bugs? They eat the hell out of stink bugs and all sorts of garden pests. I've played with and handled insects for years, and you have to want to be bitten by a wheel bug to get bitten.

Bed bug, or a Cootie. Kids have cooties a lot.
