Don’t worry Scooper will veto it, but 33 is 2/3 majority to override the veto. The 77 in the house is all well over the threshold.

Interesting. I hadn’t seen that before, either.

And when it comes to overriding the veto, republican votes will dry up.

Anyone got cliff notes on what this contains other than allowing us serfs to carry in a house of God?

If your church has a school, you can't carry in the church -- if Royd's veto prevails.

Geez that’s a really broad name for a bill that is so narrowly focused. An intern somewhere is fired...

Cooper's veto was to "protect the safety of students and teachers" - what a disgusting liar.

This should be a none issue. If they have a veto proof vote already then that should be the end of it.

There was one republican absent so they have 33 and with 5 Democrats voting it to pass it in the Senate. So, they would need all R’s and 4 Dems to override it. I venture a wild guess that 2 of the Dems will change course for party over state.

Anybody know what the normal timeframe is for a vote to override a veto is?

Not even sure if they’re in session to know if it would be handled this coming week or not.

"H652 was placed on the calendar for a veto override vote in the House scheduled for 8 July, 2020." -ammoland

My senator, deViere, is a (D) and he did vote FOR it originally. I just called his office to leave a message thanking him for that and encouraging him to override the veto.

Then I called my house rep, Szoka (R). I forgot that they're really good about having phones available and the lady caught me with a mouth full of pizza (again). She guaranteed me that Szoka was going to vote to override because he's very pro-2A

Then we talked about some other gun issues, then we talked about how all the covid/riots are causing a major backlog of background checks, then we talked about how she bought her first gun recently (a shotgun since she's most familiar with those), then we talked about how her background check took 3 days. Then I got to tell her about how if it took 3 days, she probably didn't actually get a "pass" in time because 3 business days is the NICS delay limit and the FFL could still sell to her even if her "pass" never came. Then she asked me to send more emails about any other 2A issues I have, because hooray for 2A.
It's nice to feel like a rep's office has your back - I get that a lot from (R) reps, and I get a lot of answering machines from (D)s.

    What the.... that’s disappointing.

They change their mind because they’re spineless and are intimidated by King Cooper and the party. Nothing changed in the bill.

One of the speakers called them out on that. “You gonna let the people tell you how to vote? Or let the Governor tell you how to vote?”

    obvious we got that answer...

We need to have some discussion on this since we are left in the lurch. It had become my understanding after much reading that there are circumstances in which you can legally conceal carry in a church if the pastor permits, regardless of a weekday school that may be run on the premisis on other days, with some caveats. Now this proposed legislation suggests that was not the case.

That was not the case and correcting that oversight was the purpose of the original bill. Churches with attached schools may not allow CC during services even though the school is not in session, because there is a school attached - and, as one Dimbulb put it today, somebody might leave a gun there and a child might find it. So a church without an attached school may allow CC during services, and a church with a school attached may not - all other facts not considered.

Took 69 to override. They could only muster 66.

We’ve had LEO, whose HQ is two blocks from the church in a town of 150,000, who was officially sent from his dept. and made presentations to our safety team, who expressed no issue with it. The same LEO runs safety for an extremely large church one town over, that also has a preschool on site, so I don’t think it is cut and dried as that.

That’s good that the one LEO you speak of is on our side but all it takes is another LEO or prosecutor who disagrees and you’re screwed.

This is the guy the city's department sends out to make presentations to churches on request.
He was very knowledgeable, but I can’t even recall the discussion now. It was right after Jack Wilson put that guy down in the Texas church.

Has anyone already looked to see who the spineless, flip-flop voters were?

I’d love to see GRNC do a “remember in November” email blast for those 3, with an overall disappointed (not threatening) tone.

I'm pretty sure I'd be struck by lightning if I stepped foot inside a church, but holy crap, I feel for the religious here. Agreed with @wsfiredude, it's up to us now.
