We usually do a family camping trip on Columbus Day weekend.

This year, we're in the Mohawk Valley in NY, near Cooperstown. We've been coming to this place for 27 years. It's hit or miss with the weather. We've been here and it's 70. We've been here and it's snowing.

We're thinking about maybe a beach trip next year. Family can come to us.

We've never been to a NC beach. As a kid, we did Myrtle Beach every year but it's too built up and crowded now.

Looking for you local experts for recommendations.

ETA: Should have specified - we have a travel trailer. If there's tent camping or cabin rentals for others, that's a plus. And dog friendly.

What type of camping? Tent or RV/travel trailer?

I have a travel trailer.

Myrtle Beach State Park and Huntington Beach State Park are nice places to camp.

We fairly recently stayed at Holden Beach RV Campground. It was decent, although a little cramped. Our neighbor was a pro wrestler and I could have very well been murdered after watching the new live action version of The Lion King.

But I wasn't.

Hammocks Beach State Park, an island right off Swansboro. They have sites. Or the national seashore on the outer banks. I have camped at the seashore on Ocracoke as well.

Edited to add, these are tent camping; not sure if they have camper/RV camping sites. There is a place for RV/camper camping in Carolina Beach.

Holden Beach is a great spot. Lived there almost 10 years. Very low key. Kinda like the hidden forgotten beach.

Stay FAR FAR away from ocean air travel park.

Tent camping, all rustic like, cape lookout or shackleford. Of course if it sucks you don't get to just pack up and leave.

RV park or cabin, KOA at Rodanthe is decent, they have tent sights but it can get noisy on the weekend, and I've seen the aftermath of a windy night. Off season places to eat start getting limited.

Croatan national forest has a quiet little campground, not on the beach not far, super cheap, and there's some tidal water.

Full disclosure I'm more into to fishing and avoiding people than doing all the other beach stuff.

Fly creek cider mill open back up? Fresh cider and a donut fresh out the grease sounds really good.

Edited my original post - travel trailer for us. Others may tent or if there are cabins for rent.

Must be dog friendly too

Not sure. Son in law and his family are doing the Hall of Fame. He's never been there.

I'm going to the Farmer's Museum with my brother in law. Antique tractors there today.

I'd like to get by the Ommegang Brewery and get a case of beer to bring back

Cedar Island "Resort". They have RV sites, a restaurant/bar, a mile of beach with shallow clear water, and even horse back rides for the kids. The dogs can run on the beach too. And you can take the ferry over to Ocracoke for a day too. Downside is that the skeeters can get a bit nasty unless you have a nice breeze. But I have discovered that in the south, especially on the coast, if there are no bugs it is because they have been replaced by people. Lots and lots of people.

More of a Glamper myself - had a good overnight at Morris Farm Market in Barco NC through Harvest Hosts. Then went to KOA Outer Banks West. Was OK although pouring rain the entire time. Electric worked well.

Planning a week in May, 2023 at https://myrtlebeachtravelpark.com/

Anyone got any recommendations for a good spot for glamping? The wife and I wanna do it but don’t know much of the area.

Not sure where you are, but I'm currently at North Myrtle Beach RV Resort and Dry Dock Marina.

You want to talk about glamping? We're on a concrete pad with manicured lawn, directly across from the office/convenience store.

We were listening to The Zach Brown band, from the speakers scattered across the resort. That is, until 8pm. Zach Brown stopped, then crickets. No, really. The resort is playing cricket noises, in a loop, over the resort speakers.

It's starting to get on my nerves because I can actually hear where the track ends and begins.
