NC local politicians want to make it Illegal to shoot on your own land

I’m already a skeptical person. I dropped the NRA due to the non stop “THE SKY IS FALLING!” e-mails and letters. Then the Wayne LePew and then the mismanagement info came out.
GRNC does do some local good work. These entities need to keep it to, “Just the facts m’am” or you’ll lose my ear and support.

Part of the reason I bought 20 acres for just one house was to be able to shoot and hunt.
I’ll get wound around the axle if Chatham tells me I can’t pew.
Stuff like what is proposed in Guilford is well on its way in Chatham with the new Chatham park. Pittsboro is already an extension of Chapel Hill and Chatham park will be a lot of relocating yankees as well. Chatham is a great place to live, and close enough to Wake county and Chapel Hill to easily commute. That corner of the county already controls the politics, it’s just a matter of time before things like this happen.

Although I agree that GRNC, GOA, FPC, NRA and many other large and small organizations try to churn up fear to drive fundraising, all nonprofit organizations do this. At least GRNC does raise awareness of happenings in NC. I live in Guilford and had absolutely no idea this was being developed by the Commissioners. I am delighted to toss GRNC a few bucks a year for that type of information. And they are constantly asking for alert writers to help. Maybe some of us could volunteer, in order to help improve the quality of the alerts.

I’d say an ordinance that forbids the “repetitive firing” of a .22 on rural private property, after 9PM or before 8AM, anywhere in the county, is pretty draconian. In addition, your target line has to more than 150 yards from ANY building or road? And your firing line position has to be more than 150 yards from any building that is “meant” for occupation by any animal? Even if facing in the opposite direction.

Seems there can be no low light training at all during the summer months, and no “before work” shooting on your own land. And your firing line cannot be within 150 yards of a neighboring dog house, chicken coup or barn. Unless you have written paperwork you can produce for the kind officer sent to investigate.

Can’t see where that’s an overreach, nothing to see here.

There is proctections in state law for pre-existing ranges even privately owned. Not sure that any ordinance would pass muster in court. So they're setting themselves up for lawsuits galore

They probably don’t care. Many of these Commissioners are beyond corrupt. Do a simple search on Commissioner Alston.

I hate to hear this happening in NC -but saw this coming some months ago when Granville County tried something similar. Don't know what became of that as I got busy moving, and while I admit parts of Virginia are "Woke", the county I moved to, even though it's supposed to be Dem, the militia practices on the weekend across the road from my property and fires thousands of rounds. The sheriff lives on my road and flies. a Gadsden flag in his yard. Got my concealed in 3 weeks when I moved up here, and when I notified the department of my can transfer, I got a welcome to the county from him. Don't think they will try that crap here, they would probably be run out of the county on a rail.

If you can fund the lawsuits that is.

Wouldn't this be in violation of the statewide preemption statutes?
I think the left cares very little for "law" that they disagree with, and a whole lot with "law" that they like.
We are not governed by law. We are governed by people with the political will to enact and enforce the things they want. The question really seems to be, does the pro-gun side have the political will to pay attention and force the antigun side to abide by the law.
I believe that the vast majority of gun owners lack the will to even pay attention to any of this. So it will take a very vocal agitated minority to force the left to obey the law.

My neighbor came by and asked me to sign a petition due to Cabarrus county doing the same BS...massaging the existing 55 year old ordinance to prevent you from shooting within closer than 500ft to your OWN residence. I will be at the hearing on Aug 16th

Was the petition for or against???

I live in city but fixing house up in county. I was working and not able to go to meeting. If the commissioners was focusing on gun violence from the thugs and gang bangers in Guulford County and the city alderman would also focus on this stuff and leave law abiding citizens alone. It's crazy like the Greensboro gun show. Inhope someone reminds them they are all elected officials and can be voted out. All it takes is one stupid county to pass something like this then others will catch on.

Haha cowards gonna "form a commitee" now.

Guess they forgot the 2A sanctuary movement and the crowds

Tonight is the Cabarrus county meeting @630 PM. Im going to speak if I can. I will update yall after

Update: I am signed up to speak in #4 spot. It will be livestreamed on their website. We have a GOA rep here but very few speakers.

Let us know how it went, what the tone was, what the turn out was like for each side, etc when you can.
Tone is good. We have moderate support against most of the "permission" type exemptions but Sheriff Shaw is for the current draft. All in the name of safety and do it for the children.

Larry Pittman R-NC spoke against the permissions stipulation as well as several citizens

500ft from a covered structure that isn't yours requires permission from the neighbor - thats the sticking point. They tabled it til next month....not a surprise.

Oh and Blake Kiger from Harrisburg is a RINO POS
