I assume eveyone but I was aware of this? (h/t The Captain's Journal)

A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT TO REQUIRE THE REGISTRATION OF ASSAULT WEAPONS AND TO REQUIRE THE REPORTING OF LOST OR STOLEN FIREARMS.

https://webservices.ncleg.net/ViewBillDocument/2019/3471/0/DRH30367-MLf-113

This whole thing is a dog's breakfast of infringement. It is disturbing right from the git:

9.41. Registration of firearms. 10 (a) Definition. – For purposes of this section, the term "assault weapon" includes all of the following: (1) Any selective-fire firearm capable of semiautomatic or burst fire at the option of the user.

I'm sure there were plenty of similar bills introduced in Virginia that went nowhere until the Dems took control. The primary sponsor, Mrs. Clark from Mecklenburg County, was put there with Bloomberg's money and this is her paying him back. Then she will send fund raising letters saying "give us the majority so we can get this common sense legislation passed". But it is clearly a taste of what they will have waiting for us if they ever regain the majority.

For now, I politely call my reps and tell them I do not want bills like this to pass. If they don't listen to me then, there will be war. I will not comply. :)

Man, the add on the characteristics thing for collapsible stock, pistol grip, threaded barrel, forward grip, etc and reach farther and farther BUT they still don’t get my M1’s or little M1 Carbines by their little ticks. The Fed’s AWB bills actually gives those and many specific exemption also.

$5 per fee to the Sheriff? And then ANNUALLY ... WTH?

Oh, but they did, in the first sentence out of the box: For purposes of this section, the term "assault weapon" includes all of the following: ... Any selective-fire firearm capable of semiautomatic or burst fire at the option of the user.

That, in effect, is all of them.

Marxists, I have no automatic weapons (machine guns For the libs), so piss off.

So walk into your local sheriff’s Dept with a Louisville Slugger or a golf club to register it as an assault weapon. If they say no, whack them.
Suddenly you’re charged with assault with a deadly weapon.
If two people walk in saying the same thing, in harmony, they won’t take either of them.
Can you imagine 50 people a day walking in singing a bar of “Bite Me” a day. It’s be called a revolution, and that’s what it is.

It is poorly worded in (a)1 section but you left out the “selective-fire” part ... full auto ... or “burst fire” ... 3, 4, 5 round bursts. Then in (a)2 they go “semiautomatics” and list specifics.

Now if this had passed and been sign into law could a quick talking attorney have twisted the wording ... hell yes! But in this version (1st revision not final revision) with that convoluted wording would likely not have made it for final vote in either chamber.

Perhaps. You say "poorly worded", I say "word trap". Who's to know for sure?

Find "selective-fire" defined in the statutes. (I believe it is not.) It could mean "has a switch that controls the trigger operation" ... i.e. the safety selector.

Democrat authors drafted this ... both? The majority of people like them have minimal knowledge of firearms, functionality, form, purpose, etc ... the “full semi automatic” type thing we’ve heard is an example. But their are also sneaky ones who’ll slide in gray area wording for future abuse ... but here I’ll go ignorance and the poor wording describing what is a selective fire firearm ... capable of full auto/burst fire or semi-auto fire (along safe position) ... but can’t form the correct wording.

Yes. As I say it's a dog's breakfast of a bill as is. But HB842 as filed contains the same mish-mosh. I think the over-listing and technical gibberish is deliberate; if not, then I think it is at least designed to be subject to interpretation. And we all know who will ultimately do the interpreting.

^This. Attempt at a word trap by someone who doesn't understand the terminology.
Ultimately, if the term is not defined, it is subject to interpretation. See my above.

We need to be careful that what happened in Virginia does not happen in North Carolina, we need to start our own version of the Virginia Defense League, every state should have a chapter or similar organization things have a way of changing very fast , when you have asswipes like Bloomberg dumping hundreds of thousands of his own dollars into turning states from red to blue with all their antigun agendas too, Virginia was one of the friendliest gun states and now it may become antigun....overnight......it may lead to civil war in that state.....imagine bringing in the Va. national guard to try to enforce gun confiscations...I dont believe the guard will turn on its own but anything is possible, someone will die and one thing will lead to another ending God knows how....the democrats want the US to become a socialist country, I will not live in a communist country, there will be civil war and it all starts by disarming the American people, they want us to be subjects, not citizens, we need to make sure that we the people run this great nation, starting with protecting our 1st and 2nd amendment rights, every gun law is unconstitutional and illegal...we need to make sure our elected officials work for us and not for themselves and their elitist friends , I may be 65 and disabled but, I will die before I give up my rights and my firearms..I never thought I would see a time when the socialists/democrats/ communists would have any control in this country, they hijacked our education system and have brainwashed students to believe in their socialist agenda, they have dumbed down our kids and have made a generation of social justice warriors with socialist views , they are trying to erase and pervert our history, basically destroying our nation from within, these kids will realize how wrong they are, but it will be too late..its time to take our country back, by voting in like minded politicians who truly believe that they work for the people and we make the laws, not them and if it cant be done politically then with civil unrest and disobedience, we must fight tyranny any way we can, I am donating to all the 2a groups out there, I have donated to the Va defense league and will do anything I can to protect my rights and this country’s future by making sure it never becomes a socialist state...IMHO ..its time to change the direction this country is going preferably peaceably or with violence if need be.the constitution supersedes any and all other laws that are not compliant.call me a redneck, call me a nationalist, a racist,a nazi a kkk member, a white supremest, none of these names are right, as I am just an American Patriot who believes our constitution was a directive not a suggestion. End of rant

When guns become outlawed,I will become an outlaw!
The fact that the government would even consider repealing the second amendment is the very reason for which it was written.
