NC USPSA Section Match 2018

Here it is for those that are not in the loop but curious:

All,

Feedback regarding the cancellation of the 2018 Carolina Classic revealed that an overwhelming majority of shooters want a reschedule of the match. Therefore, we are proud to announce that the NC Section will host a 2018 North Carolina State Championship match at CGGR the weekend of November 16-18.

The event will be a level one trophy match featuring 12 stages including one classifier. Jason Byerly will be the Match Director. The match will be shot in an all-day format on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. North Carolina resident division winners will be named State Champions.

Competitors who previously registered and paid an entry fee for the 2018 Carolina Classic will receive a pre-registration code to sign up and squad for this match at no additional cost. The pre-registration period for paid shooters will open on October 15th.

Staff and Sponsored shooters who previously registered for the 2018 Carolina Classic, but did not pay an entry fee, will receive a pre-registration code to sign up and squad for a match fee of $100. The pre-registration period for non-paid shooters will open on October 18th.

On October 22nd, we will open registration to all other competitors for a match fee of $100.

Please note, that due to staffing limitations and reduced daylight hours on the rescheduled dates, competitors will be required to paste targets, reset stages, and perform Range Officer duties.

A refund will be addressed by the NC Section Executive Committee for those who paid the 2018 Carolina Classic match fee and do not attend this match. Additionally, there may or may not be a partial refund made to those that do compete in this match. The amount of the refund will be determined after all financial obligations have been met. Refunds will be sent by January 1st, 2019.

Per Facebook Marty and Jim are resigning from Section Coordinator and Secretary (I think that was Jim's title) effective Dec 1.

This saddens me, as I think they were given a no win situation.

Money was spent that couldn't be recovered.

Monies spent to hold a match should have been on tangible items. Sure some staff shirts and tee shirts were purchased, but all other stuff could still have been used.

The only way the match monies could have been spent in a non reusable way would have been tv, radio or even bill board advertising.

Sure the hurricane was a game changer. Nobody wanted to cancel that weekend of shooting but was a reasonable call. The next 3 weeks being spent to come up with nothing but a screw you out of your money plan is what was wrong. That wasnt GIVEN to them, they chose that route.

The finaces are rumored to be released as public info this Friday. Today the top 2 resigns.
Very suspicious. Hope I am wrong, but it does not look to good as of now.

And to top it off, those who volunteered as staff were expected to pay to get in the next match

The top guys washed their hands of this whole thing awefully fast for some guys that "loved what they were doing". Why would they not want to see it thru some how. Especially of how great this was supposed to be. A mini Nationals. Now we will never know.

But mad props to CGGR for stepping up and throwing out a 12 stage match as some sort of good will gesture to the Sectional shooters.

You raise good points, I'll concede that. I don't have much of a dog in the fight, given I wasn't planning to shoot the sectional this year.

I liked what Marty was doing with the section. It was nice to see some movement and to see some excitement about making things better.

Be happy to tell you about the money.....all prizes were purchased and some were donated.
Every drop of money is accounted for by the CPA.
One reason I never wanted a debit card was this exact reason, to account for cash.
I elected to get a credit card and a checkbook only to have a paper trail.
The accounts I set up thru my CPA actually have made the section over $400 thru interest.
We can account for every dime, even hotel mistakes that were caught at the audit. They charged my
personal card and the section card twice. This was found a couple of weeks ago as well.
The reason I stepped down was because the executive committee doesn't want to spend money on RO
classes and Junior Camp's promoting and building our section. We haven't done those classes in three
years and we have clubs with RO's that have expired in 2014. When I interviewed with Lucas that is one
of my reasons for becoming the SC. I told the Exec. Committee that if I didn't spend the money where you wanted why
did no one say anything? That's all.....
We have four people watching the money, two cpa's, Jim and myself. The exact reason I wanted a CPA is what you guys are
questioning! All the unspent money is sitting in the bank making money.
I'm guilty of one thing, not communicating the layout of the two Level 2 matches and splitting the money between the two.
We offered $70 back on both matches, hindsight being 20/20 I wish I'd never done it that way. I asked CGGR to do another
match and they stepped up and offered, thankfully!!

Marty

Ok Marty, thanks for the response. Couple of question if you dont mind.

Where is the notion of the "expired money" for not being able to hold a match coming from?

And why wasnt a "rain date" considered after the fact instead of a half assed refund?

I do appreciate what you were attempting. Hate to see you step out so early over what is seemingly a correctable situation.

Rain date was and has never been considered because of the obligations of vendors and clubs. I checked with USPSA HQ and they don't even schedule a rain date. Other Sections told me they don't either. They have all our money (50 states) so they can refund money. They (HQ) also wouldn't even talk about helping us, it's there policy to not get involved on a local level. We looked into "Rain Insurance" and it ranged from $12-$25 a shooter depending on coverage, cost prohibitive!
Most of the response I got (staff) was I
can't work a match at a different date. We had 10-12 staff coming from out of state.
No club would commit to a reschedule, CGGR finally did give us a date, which we were grateful for.
We tried to split money between both lvl 2 matches to make them bigger and better, I'll admit it was rolled out wrong on my part!!!
I rolled out a Plan A and B and didn't say anything about a C or D because we were still working on it, again my bad communication!

All the purchased items are sitting in my garage and will be given to the next SC for the match, it's a good pickup load. I did resale the
targets and paint to recoup some of the money. Some of the money will be paid to CGGR for the reschedule and the Executive Committee
will give a refund for the rest of the money minus what it will take to keep the section alive, ie; website, taxes, etc.
I have learned a huge lesson on communication, wait!!!
Stepping out question, I have taken a beating privately and publicly and even been threatened personally about this. The exec. committee
wants not have classes and junior clinic, that's what our 501c3 is based on, training. It will be sad to loose our 501c3 over no classes.
I really wanted to make this happen I assure you, but the wife saw what I was getting and said why? I willingly volunteered my time. I spent lots of time away from her and family working on this match and time on the inet and phone to make this a mini nationals. I even skipped family events giving my time to the section, that's why basically. Thanks for asking.....

Sorry to hear this @Marty Wood
I was especially bummed to see that the RO class was cancelled

Don't thank CGGR yet.... At least wait until you have shot some of the stages.;)
