looking in to gun safes and it all very confusing to me. any suggestions?

only have 10 long guns, that is why i was going for 20. any idea on pricing?

I had a huge one and had to buy 2 smaller after moving. One is a 20 gun Steelwater that has been pretty good. In the 700 range. Make sure you secure them well as the smaller safes are easier to tote away than the bigger ones!

i found the drake pricing and they seem to be a very good choice so far.

Someone already mentioned Drake and Liberty. Get one bigger then just 20 you will not regret it. Rifles that have scopes on them take up at least two spaces.

If you are on a budget check out the Canon ones at Tractor Supply. It all depends on your needs.

Greg Drake builds his safes right here in Roxboro. He's a great guy and builds excellent safes. And like has already been said. Get the biggest your budget will allow. You'll find all kinds of things (besides guns) you'll want to lock up in it. My wife took over half of mine with important papers and jewelry. The nerve.......

Cannon at tractor supply its hard to beat their prices. Go ahead and buy a big one I bought one (55 gun safe ) i thought would work but im already out of room.

Got my first safe out of high school in 83'. Couple of things to consider after hauling them around half the globe since.

Do you want fire proofing or not. The lining is basically sheet rock that adds weight but manufactures usually use a thinner sheet metal instead of thicker steel on the uninsulated models. If there is a fire while the lining may prevent it from getting too hot inside remember when the FD hoses the house down with water that will create steam that will rust those guns ASAP! So you have to determine whether you want fire or great burgerly protection.

Out of 5 safes I've own only one has a electronic lock. I prefer S&G combo dials. Look at the hinges and locking bolts on the door. I like a small diameter hole in the back of the safe for a electricial cord for the Golden Rod. Bolt that thing down when you get it where ever its going to park. Bigger is always better.

In a month, on Black Friday. Seriously, if you decide on TSC do not buy before they roll out BF pricing.

Go big, digging and banging stuff around, half emptying to get one item sucks.

Bolt it down, keep it as tight against walls and heavy stuff as possible to slow a thief as much as possible. All a residential safe does is buy time and potentially stop the unprepared.

This is always a good suggestion.
Liberty is a close second.

Liberty makes some made in China garbage also. If you get one of those, you might as well get a Stack On from Walmart.

My suggestion? Ask your LGS. I have looked at many safes, and Heritage stands out to me as a no-compromise company.

Superior makes a great safe if you want to deal with Larry Hyatt. I don't.

Drake Safes are local, high quality, and hard to find around my area (Charlotte).

Canon at Tractor Supply in Fuquay which wouldn't be a big haul from Sanford. Great pricing, had plenty of guys to help load. I reviewed the different options and stores in the in the Raleigh area for a couple weeks and ended up going with Tractor Supply.

I bought this one but it was on sale at the time for 619.95.

Just saw this one on there as well that looks like a good price and capacity.

I put in my own led strip lights from ebay with motion detector. Under $20.

I did this after following Twangnbang's YouTube video instructions. INCREDIBLY effective and easy to do!

OP, if you're looking for rock solid, Drake is probably your best bet. If you're looking for bang for the buck, tough to beat Liberty. My 24 gun Liberty has been great for under $600.

Like all things, it depends on the budget.

If you want a very good strong box, Drake will be hard to beat. If you want a "pretty" box that will only slow down a dumb crook, they are available from numerous sources with pretty paint and decals.

If you want real security and fire protection, go to a serious safe dealer. A couple come to mind, in Greensboro there is Southern Safe. They carry gun safes as well as commercial grade products. Talton Safe in Raleigh carries some very nice "pretty" box gun safes but more importantly, they have a huge selection of used commercial grade safes. This type safe will start at $1500 plus but if you want real security, they can't be beat. They will deliver for a small fee as these are not safes you can haul in your pickup.

It is worth a trip to either of these dealers for the education if nothing else.
