First, let me get a couple obvious issues out of the way:

1. I require an iOS device for work (I write software for Apple users), so don't go there.
2. I'm not asking about the potential implications of a Big Brother all seeing/all knowing invasion of privacy and security implications; I'd just shut it off.

My question is for iPhone X owners...how reliable is the Face ID? Does it get tripped up with beards, glasses, hats, etc.? I'd prefer to go with the latest and greatest for a number of reasons that mostly have to do with work, but if Face ID is unreliable I may just go with an iPhone 8 and the fingerprint scanner.

Over all impression of the X series phone?

I’m quite happy with my iPhone X. The extra screen size over the 7 is great. I tried the iPhone 8 for a while but it is just too honking big especially to stick in my pocket.

The iPhone X face ID has worked really well. The only time it has problems is if you are outside and the sun is right overhead or behind your face. In that case, you might have to type in your security code to access the phone.

I wouldn’t go back to a regular iPhone at this point. I use my iPhone heavily for work as well.

Works for me 99% of the time. Works with sunglasses, regular glasses, hats etc...

Only time it doesn’t work is when I am holding it at a bad angle or too much sun. Love the iPhone X.

Well, I'm setting up the new iPhone XS. Heck of a nice machine. Glad I didn't spend my money for it! Holy crap, I've had cars that cost less than this thing.

No regrets with my iPhone X. IMO, much better (intuitive) than previous platforms.

Ive always been android, but was debating the X, XR, Or XS…. cant figure which one Id want. Or a Samsung 9+ or Note. decisions, decisions...

I've had Samsung for years but I've thought about Apple next time. I hope that day is still a ways off. I've had my phone for 2 years now. That's about how long the last two lasted before they started giving trouble.

I like mine. Had iPhones for years. Not like you can retain your privacy anymore anyway.

Have had the XS for a week now and am really digging it. I was an original beta tester in 1st gen iPhone and have had them ever since. I’m no longer an “insider”, This is the first model in a long time that I got exited about after playing with it.

I don't have the problem a lot of people do with their phones. I've had this Droid Turbo for about 6 years. I've been due for an upgrade but if it still works I don't really worry about it. My issue is I've had to load a lot of software from the hospital on my phone for a secure encrypted server. And that has made it act wonky. I just don't think it has the ram to do what I needed to do

I’m about to order an iPhone Xr for work. I have to pay half out of pocket and I like the 128 GB option. I’m not enough of a photographer to care about the camera differences.
