What would make a forwarded port not stay forwarded?

Blue Iris port forward on my router drops after a few days to a week.

This renders remote access inaccessible.

Thoughts?

Doesn't matter whether I add it manually on the router or through UPnP via Blue Iris. A week or less later, poof.....

I’m only “geek lite”, But are you using a default port number? I have had instances where my ISP blocked a default port number in order to stop me from being a bandwidth hog. I solved that problem by picking a random port number.

Not an IT guy.

Did not stay at a Holiday Inn express last night.

Are you using your ISP router, or your own? If your own, is your modem in pass through mode?

Just had another thought - is your blue Iris device set to normal DHCP, or do you have a reservation? If it's pretty consistently dropping, the forwarded port may drop once your device gets a new IP address.

1. Is the rule still in place but not working or gone.

2. Have you checked system up time?

3. Are you running latest firmware?

I've not used Blue Iris. Do they have a list of open caveats you can look through?

Also, does your router have the option to function as a VPN endpoint instead of using port forwarding for remote access?
1) gone, poof.
2) yes, no issues that I can see
3) I believe so but I'll double check.

I've used both the default and a random number. Same result.

If the rule is gone, it def sounds like a router firmware issue. Sometimes bugs like that require you to factory reset the router and then upgrade directly to the new firmware. Might be something left over in one of the versions of code.

Are you its the port fwd that isn't working? If you open your blue iris systems IP in a browser to that port do you see your video? I use BI for 10 years now and am pretty familiar with it. Test that out, also check your router logs and see if it's telling you whats happening, you may be able to set the information level on the logging as well.

My blue lights on that thing jump around like crack heads on Thursday morning, but every day or two I have to unplug it and plug it back up. Hope this helps.

Positive.

Every time I'm unable to connect remotely, either through android app or browser pointed to that IP address I go in, reforward the port and voila. Magically working again. For anywhere from 4 to 7 days.

What kind of router is this? Firmware version? Also, try adding two rules, your BI rule and some random port see if they both dissapear?

Arris Surfboard SBG6900 - AC
Firmware: D30GW-OSPREY-1.5.2.5-GA-00-NOSH

Doesn't support manual updates. Will have to call the cable company to update if it needs it (fun times).

I'm having several port forwards randomly disappear at times.
