I grabbed some 5gal buckets from the hardware store today for some extra water storage for the hurricane above and beyond my usual storage.

Unfortunately they were sold out of lids. Other than Saran wrap, does anybody else have good ideas how to make a "lid" for them?

Lowe's, Home Depot, Wal-Mart all sell buckets and lids.

They are all sold out of lids, hence the question.

Yea but they want 3$ for “normal” lids and 8 for gamma.

I’m in he same boat, but plastic wrap is gonna be just fine since I’m not stashing for long term

Just like Lowe’s wanting 4.28 for the same bucket Walmart has for 2.98

You asked a generic question and your statement implied that the store was sold out (1 store). I offered three store options not knowing where you went.

Jigsaw and 1/2” plywood ... if you want to get fancy a little foam cushioning with a piece of cloth stapled around and you even got a camp seat. The ones I made look a lot like barstool seats. After the storm they are great for camping and such they are multipurpose ... seats, carry things, trash can, etc.

It’ll be pricey, but if you check with a home brew store they will more than likely have some.

For the short term, plastic (trash bags, sheet plastic, etc) with rubber bands or bungee cord to secure over the tops.

Nothing wrong with this option.

You can try back at the stores later.

Amazon ? With there quick delivery and they might ship from somewhere outside of area affected so likely to have stock.

Pay the man.

NO matter if they are free it would take $10 just to ship 2 of them.

Buy locally and subtract estimated shipping and your down to about a buck and a half.

Just pay the man. It ain't worth it unless you got a good supply.

Thats what my neighbor did. He cut two circles one bigger than the other. The small one goes inside the bucket to stop it from easily sliding off. Glued and screwed together it makes a good seat and lid.
