Looking for cheap / DIY type devices that will extend my current wifi signal. I have good signal in the living room but not in the bedroom which is the furtherest room from the router/modem. I can get the signal but very weakly and want to somehow boost the signal. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I use wired access points and have amazing coverage. If you have a crawlspace, it isn't difficult or expensive to hardwire between your router and the bedroom. Something else I've used with success is Mesh but it is quite spendy.

Sounds like you might need a cheap power line extender. Search Amazon for them.

I got a 14.99 netgear extender that works for everything I needed. Which was exactly what you mentioned, bought at bestbuy.

If you have firewalls, the physical kind, or severe blockages due to construction, insulation, etc.... Netgear has a great power line based extender as Jeppo mentioned above.

Basically, you plug in a master extender near your main wi-fi router into an electrical outlet. You run an Ethernet cable from the master extender to your main wi-fi router. Then, you plug one or more satellite extenders in areas where you have no signals or bad signals.

Install the software into a laptop or tablet, follow the instructions to set up the network, and you're done.

What you're doing is running your internet signal from the main router, to your Netgear extenders through your electrical wires throughout your house.

This system works very good. Occasionally you need to unplug an extender for a few minutes when it loses an IP address, but it doesn't happen often, at least from my experience.

Works great and the speed is good.

I used a connection of mine to get some Luxol gear. I've got wifi at my mailbox now with good signal strength. Entire house is covered really well. And my house is a PIA. I have an outdoor wifi access point coming for the cabin that supposedly will get me wifi down at the fire pit and up to 1/4 mile away. Supposedly. So far I am very impressed with their gear, but it is not likely the cheapest way to go. I had an extender at the house from the local office supply store that didn't really cut it. It was one of the big name brands, but I can't remember which one.
