Have I had a deer rifle completely loose zero. Until today. I took 3 shot on 2 deer at under 50 yards without connecting. I’m pissed. Took 2 the last day of the season last year. Have not dropped it. Been in the safe except for one trip to the range. Same ammo as last year. No impact marks on the suppressor. Factory ammo. I do think the pic rail has gotten slightly loose and that’s probably the issue. Nikon Buckmaster scope. I’ll be lugging the AR in tomorrow. I was going to swap hunting ammo so looks like I’ll tear it down and start over here soon.

Details.

H&R handi rifle in 300 BLK
TBA 30p-1 can
Nikon buckmaster 3x9x50
Noslor ammo

I’d bet the base is loose. I’ve started locktiting everything on every rifle I buy. Take the scope off and check the screws on the base. @chiefjason

Are they hitting something in the can?
If not, I'd spring for some better rings.

First thing I checked when I got home. No contact on the end of the can. Checked before I left and it’s on straight. I’ve never had a zero change with this TBA when I put it back on.

Gonna pull the scope off and tighten up the pic rail. I have to re zero for my handloads anyway so might as well start over.

I can usually cut holes with it at 50 yards.

Good news is it didn’t even spook the deer. The buck just kept eating after 2 shots and just walked off after sunset.

I’d rather miss them than wound them, so there’s that.

Un freaking believable.

I have pulled the trigger 5 times.
In two days.
On two different deer.
With two different rifles.

And I don’t have a deer on the ground. My AR lite struck 2 primers this afternoon and I had to watch that buck walk off. Again.

I thought about breaking it against on oak tree on the way out. And the P300 scope isn’t all that great in low light either.

Looks like I need to get that handi rifle fixed and get to the range.

I missed a beautiful 8 last weekend at 80y with the new Ruger American Predator 308. New Leupold VX-5HD and Seekins rings. Scope rail worked itself loose on the range I guess.

When I went back to check zero, it was off 18-20” to the right. Good thing that buck wasn’t broadside the other way or I would’ve put one right in his ass.

Sucks but a good reminder to check the basics, especially with a new rifle.

Got the handi rifle sighted in. Not thrilled with its performance but minute of Bambi. Might have to tweak my reloads a bit. Shot the AR and no issues in about 20 rounds. Go figure.
