Never thought about a flare gun for self defense.....

Damn!

That would suck!

We used to shoot them between the barraks buildings when I was in the service. I'm glad I never saw anyone play catch!

I carried one when boating in the past in places where firearms were prohibited (area owned by army corps of engineers)
I also carried it for emergency use when I had to make a road trip up north through very restrictive states.
Nice to know it could be used as a signaling device, or if needed for defense

Wow. They had that right at hand. I noticed they didn't stick around either :)

Maybe I need to relist my 26mm I was trying to sell lol

You can always have a subcalibre insert too, shotgun shells are good at close range.

Whoa! That looks like a lot of blood on his sweatshirt, one would think a flare gun would cauterize the wound?

Yep, have a friend that was a cop for 15 years, quit the force because he chased a dude one night where the guy ran into a dead end, then shot himself in the head right in front of my buddy. The guy had a flare gun with a shotgun shell loaded in it. My buddy couldn't get it out of his mind, PTSD, etc, so he quit the force. I told him to nut up and quit being a pansy, lol.
