Anyone been to the new store yet? It opened yesterday, any thoughts on deals pricing etc? Might go check it out today see if they got any sales.

I wanted to go - but was taking care of some medical issues all night then went to help the oldest son move apartments all day. By the time I got back here, it was shower, shove down some food, and pass out till yesterday.

When they opened in GSO a few months ago, my wife and daughter went and picked out a holster for me. I love them for it but somehow that's like me trying to buy one of them a bra. Turned out they paid full list price (versus various online sites where the same item could be bought for about 40% less). Back it went.

It right beside the Costco, so I am sure to check it out the next time I go.

"Thank you.......wheres the reciept?" :D

I hope the parking is better than at Costco, that place is insane. I went once, said nope, and haven't been back. The wife goes during work now, and it's not quite as bad. Other than her getting backed into by another lady that didn't even bother to look back.

The lots and layouts suck. Had dinner at Pei Wei Friday night. That place sucks too and is badly mismanaged. My wife did grab a couple kids' soorts bras at vety good prices the other day. I haven't gone yet. I'll wait until I can go at non peak hours. The sales flyer they sent out had nothing special.

I was one of the first 150 yesterday morning and was able to reach in the bucket and pull out a $25 gift card. Guy in front of me got $100. Bummer.

It's a good store. Gun prices are pretty good, basic Glock 19 Gen 4 is $539, won't find any better locally or online. The Shield and XD-s were also very competitive, but the Walther PPQ was $75 high. They had a Gen 5 G19 for $599. One of the guys behind the counter didn't know anything much about guns (I asked him if they had any Gen 5's, he said no, then I saw it in the counter). The other guy knew a lot more, but both were available, enthusiastic, and responsive.

I really went there to look at kayaks. They have a nice selection, and I didn't have any trouble finding a salesman who tried to be helpful, but just like the gun guy, he didn't know anything about his product (Example: "can I stand up in this kayak?" "What!? nobody stands up in a kayak! (wrong!). They have a decent selection of hunting gear, fresh and salt water tackle, and camping stuff, and I thought it was priced competitively. I didn't go over the the sporting goods stuff at all but it takes up the whole left side of the store.

So it's a good store, maybe about the size of a Dick's, not a megastore like Cabela's. Definitely worth stopping in if you are in the area. If the staff remain engaged and helpful, and spend some time getting familiar with the product, it will be great. I'll be back.

I had $10 coupon in the mail and went yesterday. Picked up a pair of pants for my son for $9.99 and a box of CCI blazer 22 for $2.49. Both regular non discounted price. I'll definitely go again.

Glad to hear it! Knew they were building but didn't realize it had already opened (on a side note, holy hell it's autumn already). I have a coupon for $20 off so I'll make my way down there before long.

No big fan of the retail gun chains, but I've always preferred Academy over Dunham's, Cabela's, Bass Pro, Gander Mountain, and other 2A-ish big boxers. Dick's isn't in that list because they are terrible at everything. The gun folks I've dealt with at the two Academies in towns I've previously lived were just more friendly, attentive, and intelligent.

I just got back from checking it out. Had my daughter with me so didnt get to gaze and drool much but place seemed nice and on par for retail pricing. Had decent stock too. Of course you can get online cheaper but after shipping etc it depends what you need and how fast. Ill def go there again and seemed like good staff sp far.

I went the day after it opened to try to price stuff for the fishing trip I went on this past weekend. They have a good selection and ok prices. Sunday me and the girlfriend went. I was looking at the gun counter and a guy walked up with a holster in his hand asking the clerk about it. The guy told him a little about it and told them they could test fit it if they had the gun in stock. The customer called his wife over and they had her pull her cc firearm to test the holster. I found my girlfriend and walked out, unsure if I will go back. I understand the guys may not have much knowledge of the product there, but to me that doesn't make unsafe actions ok.

Id bet within a couple weeks you'll see some signs maybe about keeping your weapons holstered or cased?

I'm a big fan of Academy stores myself. They opened one in Greensboro a few months back that I've been to a few times. They always remind me of "better than Gander Mountan Selection at slightly more than Walmart Prices".

Yes, Costco is membership only. However, from what I remember when we joined nearly a million years ago, it isn't hard to qualify and pretty easy to cover the dues with the money saved. Some of the warehouse clubs will give you a one-day pass so you can get in and check it out. You might ask at the door.

If they let @Love2shoot in without a membership, he da man!
