Backstory:
My favorite Uncle Herbert gave me my first gun when I was 12. It was a Remington 512 Sportsmaster bolt action 22LR rifle. I LOVED that gun! I would clean it even when it wasn’t dirty. I constantly fondl….. uh… polished the wood stock. Then, one dark day in 1980, someone decided they needed it more than me. I was traveling the country in my Chevy van and stopped at a motel in Tucson. They broke into my van and took the rifle among other things. Never got it back. I’ve been looking for one in similar condition and date to mine ever since. Never found one until Sunday the 5th. I was about to shut down the iMac and head for bed when I got a strange feeling that I should check the C&R gun list on J&G Sales. Lo and behold they had one and only one listed. I jumped on it like a hungry lion on a wildebeast!

The date code is right and it’s as close to my original’s condition as I’m ever likely to find! I will need to “polish” the stock a little.
