I recently picked up a SW 15-22 with the old style quad rail. I want to change that up to a smooth rail and keep it as light as possible, without breaking the bank. It doesn't need to be rock solid - as this is ONLY a fun plinker. It may not even have iron sights on the front. Any thoughts on a handguard for this type of application?

In order of importance to me:
  • Cost
  • weight
  • length (12-15")
  • solid

First off you are going to need one of these, after that’s installed I would grab something like this

Or any one of the many cheap free float handgaurd a rolling around out there.

Yeh - I know about the adapter. Just looking for a cheap/light handguard suggestions.

Midwest Industries Gen 3.

I have a 15" that clocks in at 10.3 oz with the barrel nut.

The Aero Atlas S-One is my absolute favorite handguard for any AR15-style rifle. I will always recommend it first and foremost. :D

I, too, find the Aero Atlas to be my favorite. It's a bit more money but very nice and still a bargain.
I have one of those, and two ALGs.

The Mlok V1 ALG is my favorite ALG (and least expensive), but noticed, like Beef15, that they are low on stock. Might be able to find it in stock somewhere.

If you can live with keymod, just got an email from Centurion that their keymod rails are half off. Like $120 for a 15". That's unreal.
