I'm picking up new AR15 next week and pretty excited! First time buyer.
1. Should I breakdown, clean, and lube before shooting?
2. Is there a cleaning kit and supplies you would recommend?
Thanks!

1. Yes, the "oil" that is on it is preservative, not lubricant.
2. Boresnake, CLP, toothbrush, solvent

What did you get?

Your next question is going to be what solvent/lube/clp to get. You will get 20 different answers.
I mainly use Breakfree CLP, Lucas gun oil and Hoppes on my stuff now. I have also used Weaponshield, Hoppes oil (orange plastic bottle), outers oil and just got some Lucas Extreme gun oil. Alot of people use Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil.

Ooo...what did ya get?!?!
I have used Hoppes for years and its never failed me.

Olive oil, motor oil, snake oil, fumunda oil whatever oil you got throw it on the bolt carrier and let it rip

Wipe it down with alcohol and lube the bcg. Other then that I don’t know what cleaning is really.

I bought a s&w m&p sport 2. Bought it through Sportmans Outdoor. Coming with red dot scope.
I found you tube videos useful on new ar15 care but wanted input from local experts. Thanks!

Good guns,, it not a real mans rifle like a AK is but all the AR'guys told me they would serve me well. I have 3 now.

I always clean the factory oil/grease from the bore with a couple patches soaked with Hoppes. If I’m not mistaken, S&W barrels are melonite treated, and the oil in the barrel leaves a nasty brown residue from the process. This oil needs to be cleaned out. Wipe off the BCG and coat with oil. I use CLP or Ballistol, but any good gun oil or even motor oil will do.
