Anyone seen this? I'm not sure what I think. I'd like to try one to see for myself.

Interesting!

"Locate the dot in the middle of the circle" -- sounds like a TruGlo version of an aperture sight.

Would try. (on a buddy's gun first!)

First thing, that would be fantastic for folks with cross eye dominance. It's a similar concept to the "sight blinder" we run on our shotguns to help with cross eye dominance. You can't see two front sights when there are none. So you can learn to shoot both eyes open without seeing double sights.

Now to put on my big boy pants.

I see this like I see lasers and other optics. I think there is a chance that you get so focused on getting things "right" that you might be slow to engage in a SD situation. Then again, most SD shootings don't actually involve the sights much. So not sure if it would be a help or distraction. With enough training you can overcome any of that. But you have to put in the time. So I guess the question isn't will it work? It's will you put in enough time to ensure it works?

Personally, inside 10 yards I've trained myself to not really even use much more than the front sight. And inside 5 yards I barely even use that. KISS. I can shoot in low light, especially if you can shoot without fully developing a bullseye sight picture. If you can index the gun on the target you can get hits, without all the whizz bang cool kid stuff.

I see several threads on the gunboards about this sight and the 365 SAS pistol. I have seen several referances to this new sight being equated to the old Guttersnipe sight, that was used on the ASP pistol.

While I think the ideas were similar, the execution is completely different and I don't see much, if any, correlation between the two.

The "new" sighting system on the 365 SAS MAY be useable at very close range, to users who don't practice, train or shoot much. But I think that there will be problems for those same users going from the holster......a concealment holster at that, to making a viable sight picture - quickly - at close range.

And at distances beyond 3 feet, I can see folks fiddling around and wasting valuable time "trying to find the dot".

For folks employing this gun and sight system, some training in the Cirillo method - using the outline of the back of the slide to index the gun on target at close range - would be beneficial. If not necessary. I have seen folks at the range having problems finding the red dot on their pistols. The new sight system will not be as user friendly as a red dot, IMHO.

And I won't bother addressing the porting on a sub compact "get off me gun". Not needed. Especially in close range scenarios. The guys over on Sigforum who are interested in this gun - not too many ;) - are talking about replacing the barrel already. But other than that...... ;) Regards 18DAI
