New Ruger 9mm carbine.....

Wow! The character and caliber of folks I meet on this forum continues to amaze. Suffice it to say that an honest mistake was made and acknowledged, which is all I can ask of anyone. THEN they go above and beyond to make sure it was square, unsolicited. I have to assume that’s to was to make sure he could sleep easy knowing his karma is way in the Black.

Thank you all for being who you are and a big shoutout to @Magdump!!!

Picked up one yesterday...
Pretty impressed thus far. Ran about 50 rounds through it straight out of the box, no cleaning. No issues ringing a 6" plate at about 40 yards right out of the box.
Put a TLR 1 on the rail section however the sling stud interferes slightly, had a TLR 7 on order anyhow, so will put that on there. Trying to figure out what type of optic.

Was going to go with a Holosun or PA red dot however think a RMRish type optic maybe better and keep the weight down.

Wife has already declared this is now "her" house gun....

I picked one up last week. Over the weekend, I ran 50 rounds through it so far.

Fed each round flawlessly. I was getting about a 5" group at 50 yards with it, but the sights will need some adjusting. I feel confident that I could shoot tighter groups with it, with different sights or an optic. (I'm not fond of ghost rings)

The take down feature is easy to use, and the gun comes apart easily.

Trigger is decent for a carbine. Not sloppy, or overly long.

The only unusual thing about this gun for me is its recoil. Its sharp and snappy, no doubt due to its 9mm caliber and its blowback action. Its doesn't feel at all like any of my other guns. The recoil isn't hard... Its just "different". Takes some getting used to if you haven't shot many guns like it.

Ref: recoil impulse-
I bet a nickle that a weight adjustable bolt and recoil spring will be released soon.

I noticed that too, it almost feels like much of the recoil is the weight of the bolt moving back and forth. It's very flat shooting, just a different impulse.

Same with any blowback PCC. The lighter the gun the more noticeable. The Sub2000 is notorious due to being so light, the 40 cal version can be uncomfortable beyond a mag or two.

BTW, anyone heard of any additional calibers on the way yet?

I'm liking mine so far. I shoot lefty so the first thing I did was move the bolt handle left and the mag release right. After just a couple of adjustments to the sight I was wearing out a 30 yards bullseye with run of the mill FMJ's.

45/70 i want to get to the range next week, sound like it went well for you

I sighted in the red dot on my AR at the same 30 yards, my last 3 shots outlining the one inch bullseye. I then took the Ruger and put 5 rounds in a row between those .223 holes with the peep sight!! Oh yes I am very happy with it!

I'm still hoping they do one with a fixed barrel ...

I am still pissed at Ruger for backing the assault weapons ban. I haven't bought one of their guns since then. A couple have been tempting... but I hold grudges for a long time.
That was Bill Ruger. The new management is very pro 2A.

The take-down has a receiver rail.

Not to speak for my British ExPat friend, but even with the ability to mount optics to a receiver, take down rifles can experience a POA/POI shift when taken down/reassembled.

While the take down version of this rifle would meet my needs (Still haven't bought one for some reason....), I would also be interested long term in a non-take down variety.

What he said. My shooting is poor enough due to lack of practice without introducing barrel wonk too.

I'm missing something here. To me optics mounted on the barrel of a take down rifle would be much more consistent and accurate than optics mounted on the receiver. One is dependent on perfectly consistent barrel / receiver lock up, the other is not. Is it a heat issue?

I wouldn't expect any better than 4 to 5 MOA out of a 9mm carbine anyway.

Right, the Ruger comes with a receiver optic mount on it's takedown rifle. That was why I wanted a fixed barrel. I neither want to add or like the barrel optic mounts I've seen for it so far.

Ah, thanks. It sounded like it came stock with a rail on the barrel.

Couldn't pass up Academy's Black Friday deal on these ($399.99). Got the last one at the Burlington location this afternoon.

Got it home and installed a Trijicon RMR on a Midwest Industries low QD cantilever mount and a TLR-1. Hope to shoot it some Sunday.

My son just picked up one also and brought it to our range today so I could shoot it. Sweet.
