Shoots 22 Short, Long and LR. Can’t pin down a date but believe it’s 1916-1920.

Beretta Olimpia Training Rifle:

22LR Italian Military training rifle, circa 1950s. It’s a semi-auto bolt action. Flip the handle up and it fires in semi mode. Leave it down and it’s manual bolt action. I had never heard of nor seen this one before so I had to have it.

I bought both rifles from the same dealer. He had them priced at $1150 together but I got them for $970. Private sale of course.

My only problem now is I’m gonna have to buy yet another gun safe!

Very nice find. Is that a Beretta Olimpia? I have two of them and very accurate. Enjoyable to shoot

Yes it is. As soon as I saw it I knew I had to have it even though I had no idea what it was. I can't seem to find a date stamp on it. I know it's supposed to be on the left side of the barrel but mine only has proof marks there. Is it below the stock?

@specops56 I just noticed that PW ARMS is engraved just forward of the bolt. Mine was engraved on the barrel and was imported in 2018, the same year I purchased. Just curious if you know the import year. Also what year rifle do you have?

Man that Stevens is a beaut!!!

I'm trying to find that out now. I haven't been able to find the date code yet. I've also posted on the Rimfire Central forum so maybe I'll get it figured out soon. I'm more interested in when it was made.

it is roman numeral i.e. XVI or 16 = 1960 may need a magnifying glass to see it. Take picture with your phone to blow it up

@specops56 I wonder if you may have one that was produced during WWII. Quite often guns produced during the war did not have production dates.

I thought production of these started in the 50s. I read that Beretta bought the design from Walther after the war.

That is what I always read and thought also. The non production date is what leans me in that direction though. Have you pulled the stock off and checked the underside of the barrel. That star in the circle is an Italian proof mark. This one has got me.

I found a cartouche on the left side of the butt that I didn't notice before:

Any idea what it means?

It is not a proof mark. It may be a previous owner marking or something along those lines. Interesting though.

Finally found my proof file. Have attached it for future info purposes. It will not help as far as dating unless there is something on the bottom of the barrel.

My rifle doesn't seem to have a date code anywhere. The only markings below the stock are these 2 small triangles:

This is def. a mystery. If you would take a pic of the top of the barrel where it say Olympia. Was talking with someone today about this and he is thinking that you may have one of the very first ones made and he stated that some were produced he believes around the end of 1948 or beginning of 1949 before mass production began.

There are no markings on the top of the barrel. The model and made in markings are on the top rear of the bolt:

Mine truly does seem to be out of the norm.

Ok. I am fairly certain that is a 1948. I made a couple of telephone calls tonight to asked some people that know a heck of lot more then I know. As soon as I told them the first two digits of the serial number they both said 1948. I did some googling also and that is what I found on the internet too(for what that's worth). The one guy said he would check in his books to see what he can find info and send me a copy if he finds something.

The "Made in Italy" is one of the reasons I was questioning the 1948 date. I did not realize they were using that before 1950. I learned something new today.

I can't thank you enough for your effort and info! That's kind of exciting if confirmed. :D
