Next project begins

This is the 300 yard line that we put in for the competition. This is Apache's brother Jimmy needing to clear 16 points to beat me by 1, and he did too. It is long, but this is 2 minute unlimited sighters then 3 minutes for score,

10 shots
6 singles (2points at 300)
4 aggressors (hostages in front) (4points at 300)
2 bonus (smaller with hostages in front) (6 points at 300)

I’m thinking...

Trigger group (I worked mine over, but it’s nothing compared to a upgraded one)
Extended mag release.
Victor Company Stock (have a Boyd’s currently, but I wanted a more traditional Manners style).
EGW 20 MOA Base
Then use my Vortex PST.

Polish the internals a little.

It has a 18” Kidd bull barrel already.

But this combo might put it into competition...

Or I could put a 20moa rail on my FVSR, and keep the Vortex Crossfire on it.

Hmm.

Limits...

.22 lr only
No Tripods (Bog Pods)
Need a good backpack with badger bones, reasor bags
Silencers are okay
Tuners are okay (I think)

Stage brief will tell you what the limits are for the stage. For instance, we may have a spool... one match you have to shoot inside the rails, another match you may have to be on the rails.

If you have a decent bolt rifle with subsonic ammo, a bipod and a backpack with bags.. you will be good to go.

Our club is awesome people.. if you show up and don't have something we will help you out! IF you just show up to watch.. be forewarned, someone will put a gun and rounds in your hand and sign you up!

Typically, you will need a good tracking scope. The holdovers just wont work for this precise shooting. Those 300 yard targets are only 8.5" high and 4" wide!!

MOA turns with a Zero at 50m (57yards) = 0
112yards = +7.5
163yards=+17.5
212yards= +27.5
300yards = + 39

Based on environmentals of course.

Hmm.

That will work nicely.

This looks like a good - albeit challenging time. Bolt gun ok? Standard velocity ammo? I’ve got a CZ 455 that would need a bipod but sounds like it would be ok - yes? Would have to work out scope details but that’s not a big deal. Hmmmmm... never shot it past 100 - might need to step up my game a bit.

Bolt gun wins every time. No AR Variants really get past 15 points. CZ's are in the winner's podium often. 10/22's have won before but they were tricked out with Kidd.

Usual winning ammo is Lapua Center-X. Some Wolf Match (Still Lapua Center-X). The variables at 200+ are magnified.

Thx @VA_GENTLEMAN - need to find a place to take a few LR shots and work out scope settings before April. I have family in Charlotte/Matthews so can justify the distance. Looks like a blast!

Apologies to Wyatt @BurnedOutGeek for a serious hijacked thread.... Bring that project up to the April match and we'll put it through its paces!!
As if we ever stay on topic. Lol

All good my friend and I like where this went :)

@VA_GENTLEMAN

Should I work on the 10/22 or FV-SR?

Sorry Brotha... the 10/22 with the Kidd Barrel should be a good foundation. Which ever shoots the most accurate at 100 would be the one I go with. I say that, because I don't know the mojo, magic or voodoo but my FV-SR shoots better groups at 50 than my Anschutz does; however.. that Anschutz will shoot half the MOA at 200 than the FV-SR.

I don't know the reason why that is, and my head hurts thinking about it.

Just to let you know my Anschutz is a 64MPR with a SWFA 20x fixed scope. I don't need FOV because I am not transitioning.

I think the real key is the ammo. Subsonic works best and we have found Lapua Center-X to be the best. Wolf Extra Match or Match is good to. I have had good results with CCI SV in my Savage... it really likes that better than Lapua.

The key is to come up and have fun. Either platform you have is fine.

Seems like a reason for a range trip.

I shoot subs anyways, I have a stamp I’m waiting on for the Oculus.

Hmm... now You have me thinking. Never thought about a Ruger 10/22 Take Down before, my cousin has 1 and 3 regular 10.22's and he shoots lights out with them. Time to make room in the safe...
Doubt this will be a match type rifle, more of a lets go hit the woods and whack some squirrels in the noodle quietly kinda rifle. I can say that it's stupid light and pretty nice to tote around, almost forget you're holding it.

Exactly!!! I am starting to realize in my older age that heavy things suck...
