Nailed it. I’m still sitting on buttload (pun intended) of .22LR that I’ll never consume.

    TP is way more useful.

consumer pockets will limit at some point. Forget the stats, but it’s something crazy like “average individual (or household?) only has 5k or less in savings”.

So if that be the case, it becomes a war of financial attrition. I can certainly afford to buy more of my future needs today than the “average” according to those figures. The panic hoarding must be hurting at this point. I expect it to ease up soon.

I would hate to know I'm paying interest on TP.

Stopped in local grocery store last night. Only thing in meat counter was four beef tongues and a whole brisket at $115, little bit of chicken, no paper anything, no bread. Picked up a case of canned dogfood, some oranges and got out.

Yeah, there a small butch shop beside our office and monday I noticed a line outside the door. Kind of thought maybe he was trying to unload meat at a deal to get ready for a shut down. Stopped by the local grocery store and they were cleaned out of everything but pigs feet (which is what I wanted any way lol). Guess everyone was hitting the butcher in hopes of him having stuff

Apparently not. I thought that at some point I could get some because everyone else now has more than they will need. I estimate I still have a 3 week supply, which before now would have seemed like a lot.

Stopped by a local Food Lion last night. No potatoes, no onions. Almost no beef, they did have a little sirloin steak and stew beef. No chicken. Almost no pork (had one small roast which I got). Plenty of italian sausage - on sale no less. Very little bacon, only one line of Smithfield that sells for $5-$6 per lb. Prepacked lunch meat was almost gone. No heavy cream (wife likes it for coffee). No eggs, almost no cheese. Things like cottage cheese were available, but you had to get the brand name one at double the price of the store brand. Dry dog / cat food was hit decently, but canned was well stocked, as was litter (but I'll get it cheaper). I did pick up enough items to have fresh in the fridge for dinners for the week with some variety without having to tap into the frozen stores, at least much.

I keep hoping eventually they'll stop. At this point I am more concerned with panic buying causing temporary shortages of things like eggs and cheese, than I am about some sort of quarantine and not being able to get to the store. I figure that as starting next week I am on a 3 weeks work from home rotation I can go early in the morning. If anyone says anything about being reserved for the elderly, well, I am shopping for my parents who are just shy of 80, one who is going through cancer treatment and the other has a bad heart valve, so anyone who complains can bite me.

This past deer season is the first time in years I did not use all our tags (mine and my son’s) but we do have 3/4 of the freezer stocked ...

Would technically be the opposite with inflation right? You have more purchasing power with a dollar now than you will in future.

imagine if you could afford to hoard (and preserve) your entire life’s needs today. A salami sandwich with all the fixins, a side of slaw and a coke would still only cost you a nickel well comparing my grandfathers youth to my kids. 0.05$ vs ~8.00$

We have been trying to replenish our chickens due to a fox getting a couple last month. All our local places, Pittsboro and Sanford, are sold out. They are selling them faster than they can get them. Of the 3 places we have been all have said that they are selling all 300 delivered chicks within 24 hours of getting them.

Where are you located? Do you have an incubator, or hens that would sit on fertilized eggs?

That is so funny – when I got home from work today my wife was talking to me about fostering kittens. It must be that everyone is staying home and feels like they have time for more pets now.
In our case, we already have two dogs, five cats, two goats, and a bunch of chickens, so I told her we don’t need any more. :)
We might do a lizard eventually, and they have some caterpillars that are supposed to make cocoons and hatch, but that is it. :)

I've got a broody hen right now. We did manage to find a few pullets today, so hunny bunny is trying to get the hen to adopt them. Let's see how that goes tonight.

I'm not too far from you, I'm in southern Chatham.

Tractor Supply in Rockingham had plenty of chicks yesterday. We were tempted to get a few, but our chicken complex is full.

I would call before going, of course.

Can't beat that Taste of the Wild. Quality grain free food at a decent price. I have to stay away from the fish one though. That stuff makes my dog's breath sooo bad.

What bacteria or virus does this kill? It'll de-grease, then leave a soap film.

We actually switched to Diamond brand after TotW was called out in that “grain free is hurting your dogs” scare last year. I researched and Diamond uses better sources of grain free foods (I forget the details). Oh and Diamond is a little bit cheaper too.
My dogs do best on fish but yes you can smell it on their breath haha

Yeah. We switched to Victor. I think Diamond and Victor are the same company. Still grain free though. We have a little shih tzu mix and I was worried about him being allergic to the grains. He's 10 years old and still going strong and never had any health issues so we just stuck with the grain free recipes. Whatever works to keep our furry friends happy and healthy.

Someone correct this if it's wrong. I was told Tractor Supply's 4Health dog food is Diamond packaged for TC.

Not to side track too much but we buy diamond from DogSupplies.com, whose warehouse happens to be right down the road from me in Huntersville. Their prices are excellent plus they offer a rewards program, plus they give you a free bag for every 8-10 depending on the brand.

Good to know about TS, I like having an excuse to go on there.

Apparently a bunch of meat processing plants have shut down due to multiple cases of COVID, and a run on meat or meat shortage is impending.
