Nib BCG before and after...

I got this pretty WMD NiB BCG:

after running a couple hundred rounds thru it (with Optimus micro can): it was black.

So I ran it for at least 30 minutes in a ultrasonic cleaner with simple green. No effect at all, ran it again with the purple simple green for about 30 minutes

Any non-coating destructive recommendations appreciated.

Mine has darkened up a little also. It's still slick to work the action, and the surface isn't coated with carbon so I don't sweat it much. I wouldn't use purple power. You might try some flitz and a cloth if you need it to bling again.
No difference than a nickle plated revolver in that way.

Both of mine greyed (is that a word) up from running suppressed, and are still slick as ever.
They now look like they got some time and attention.

I don't use a can and mine still looks like that. Crap still wipes off and it's smooth.

I do like the look, myself.

I think the purple simple green isnt safe for certain metals.

Honestly, I take mine apart and spray them down good with brake cleaner. Eats the carbon off along with any extra oil... let it dry or hit it with the air compressor, relube and put it back together.

This bcg is in my 'carbine class' ar, so it see's a lot of steel cased ammo on those training days.

Same with mine. We just had a cleaning day at Apex and i cleaned two of my AR's and lamented the fact that the BCG's don't look the same anymore. Still slick though like others have said. I was wondering the same thing. Seems normal.

Just wipe it off, lube and keep going. It isn’t supposed to shine like my wife’s ring.
