Glad to see this subforum.

I'm an Extra and have been licensed for many years. Glad to help anyone just starting out.

My tech ticket lapsed about a year ago. At some point soonish I'll make the run at General (possibly extra). Not sure if I'd use it, but better to need and not have, right?

I am happy to see this section as well. I am in the CLT area and am NCO of the Piedmont Simplex Net - www.147505.net

Anyone in the CLT area, please join us at 8:30 PM on Sunday evenings on 147.505 Mhz Simplex. We have multiple Remote Net Control Operators to assist the weaker station via relay.

I operate on VHF/UHF, DMR and HF voice and occasionally HF digital.

I believe you have a grace period to renew.

Glad to see this starting up. Hopefully it's at a time when I can get back involved in more active comms. Been a HAM for 40 years....active off and on, more off lately than on.

We had a commo section at csc but it was hidden and had all but died. Attempts to have it moved were ignored. Glad we have this in the open where more folks can get involved in radio.

htperry, Howard, was (is LOL) my Elmer and is the guru of all things radio.

He told me once "You are starting to wear me out needing me so much, and I have cats" or close enough LOL

So I try to help all who need guidance getting licenced and am the cheerleader of just how easy it can be with the right resources.

haha, Lawless, if there are any topics of interest, someone can start a thread and we'll get them up to speed. Right now I'm just watching the goings-on of the InterWeb shenanigans, but will get back to business soon.

Tonight is the Piedmont Simplex Net at 8:30 PM on 147.505 Mhz if anyone would like to join us in the Charlotte area.

I bet I can almost make it. Going to have to make a beam antenna and try that.

Could hear you in there Howard but not clear enough to understand. Propagation down that way just wasn't good tonight. However, there are many on the net that I can hear very well and the multiple net control locations works great for me.

Kevin,

I was only running 100 watts and was on my omni. I heard you very well. When I took over the simplex net I made some changes, which included remote NCOs to increase our range. I am always looking for RNCOs further out of my area to increase check-ins. Let me know if you'd be interested as the RNCO for your area. That's the reason I changed the name from Mecklenburg to Piedmont Simplex Net; to broaden the regional scope and include relay practice on Simplex.

Some time in the near future we'll have to sked a time to turn the beams at each other and crank up the watts. I have told the story of our summer QRP - NVIS experiments many times. That was some fun testing of capabilities.

That explains it. Great idea with the NCOs. I was able to copy many full signal from this area when checkins came this way.

I am just about at the point with things here to spend more time on the hobbies. You will have to update me on any testing with NVIS that has gone on and I'm ready to jump back in and keep it going.

I'm still a Tech....can't seem to nail down time to prep for an upgrade, but hopefully soon!

Just fixed my Tentec amp... was a bad connector to the DC distribution board. It's always puckery measuring under the hood of a 2x 3-500z amp even WITH the plate supply turned off.

I was glad to get it fixed and back on the air. I celebrated by working a guy in Indonesia on 40 SSB. The amp was peaking a bit over a KW out.
