I am looking to buy a new pair of mid-priced binoculars. Have looked at reviews and it seems that the Nikon Monarch 5 10X42 are pretty good according to a lot of owners. Does anyone here have and/or use these or would you give me your opinions or comments on this Nikon Binocular. Thanks in advance...

Very good Binos.. especially with the ED glass. if you are buying new. I dont believe the older M 5's had ED glass. check to be sure.

Nikons are supposed to be a good bino for the $$. And just to make you feel better here is an I am an idiot story.

My wife used to work for Carl Zeiss. You know the high end German Optic Company? One year they offered a deal on a special anniversary edition of their binoculars. Employee price was around $100. We passed. Too much $$. Later found out they retailed for about $1k at that time.

Yes, I was young and ignorant. And I kick myself about once a year over that lost opportuntiy.

I bought mom a variable power set for Christmas last year for lookin at the eagles that visit the pond. They’re a $150 Walmart set but I’m pleased with them

i own Monarch rifle scopes (not binoculars). they are good enough.
i own Nikon binoculars (not Monarch). they are ok.
bottom line: for less than $200, they are worth it.

I have been using Nikon bino's for years, way before I started doing some freelance work with them almost 10 years ago. I even have a pair of $$$ Euro bino's that sit in my safe once I bought a pair of MONARCH 7's. Brighter and not as heavy so the 7's worked for me. My son uses the MONARCH 5's with no complaints. Right now Nikon has a PROMO going on that will give you $ off the MONARCH Series bino's when you buy from a participating Nikon Dealer. $35 off the MONARCH 5's is pretty nice. Best of all, No Fault Warranty! Drop them off the back of your truck or as my son did, out of a tree stand (they didn't break- fell about 20 feet, he uses the strap now!) the bino's are covered. I don't do any sales at all, I'm just passing along some info that can save you some $.

Bought a pair a few yrs ago at Gander Mtn to use at my parents lake house. I love them the glass is good and clear .
