No duh: Americans don't eat well or exercise

Does the forum have a weightloss-focused recipes thread? I know bodybuilding forums tend to have a boatload of recipe threads for cuts.

Lots of lean protein and filling veggies can keep you completely satisfied, hitting a rough 40/30/30 macro split (protein, carbs, fat) in a calorie deficit, despite eating huge meals.

Cauliflower rice, for example, is a great “cheat” for bulking out recipes with 10-20% of the same calories and carbs (by volume) as white rice. Blacken and sauté some chicken breast (or cut up some andouille chicken sausages); season and sauté up some cherry tomatoes, jalapeños, okra, and green beans; and you can eat a stuff-you-full jambalaya with a ton of protein and fiber with not a lot of calories.

Meals like that keep well, too, so you can cook 4 or 5 big servings on a Sunday and know lunches or dinners are taken care of.

There are bulking-centric or shredding-centric plans. 99% of the population aren't doing either because they aren't lifting for bulk or trying to achieve 2% body fat. But I do think each type of plan has advantages for normal people.

I think it's a great idea to put healthy recipes on here to share with the membership, preface them with the 'purpose': fat loss, weight loss, low carb, etc.

Funny story.
My wife made cheese and chicken enchiladas from a recipe she got from a friend who was talking about all the success she was having on her new diet. This recipe was mostly cheese. Creamy and delicious. I asked for seconds and my wife said go ahead, it's "diet" type recipe. I just couldn't believe anything this rich was diet food so I called her friend and asked.

She shrieked in laughter on the phone. Apparently there was a miscommunication between them and this was her favorite thing to make before her died started...probably the thing that caused her to need to diet in the first place.

JRV.....thanks for the "OFWG at the range" post....

i used to read a blog by FerFal who survived the Argentina collapse.
he said health is #1. nothing beats it. get in shape first. guns #2.

You've inspired my first day of moderating intake. Been up since 4:30. I'll eat lunch at 10:30 or 11 and dinner at 4:30. I'm already crabby. I don't like the way getting skinny feels. I'm going to go have some more coffee. That way I can be both alert and crabby.

Have surgery in your head which causes your mouth to open 60-70% less where you have a lot less to eat. That'll do the trick ;) . Every time people look at me and say "you look great, you've lost weight," I tell them how.

Snarc aside, IF can work, it's not for everyone. Do you like shakes and smoothies? A bunch of tasty breakfast choices. Bacon is also good, eggs. All protein.

I bet the numbers show that Educated left leaning folks eat better and excercise more than the trumpers. Yoga pants sure fit better as I get closer to chapel Hill.

I'd bet the farm the numbers show they are more vain and narcissistic.
But the thin ones you see are young girls. They are that way because they are young girls (you see plenty of fat ones), not because they are left leaning or educated. Give them time and they'll be as fat as the faculty.

But think of the typical "educated leftist activist":gonna definitely huge with purple hair and stupid dayglo glasses. The further left you go, the more they ruin femininity. And masculinity too! But you can be a bobcat if you like.

The people I know who tend to be fit, regardless of political affiliation or beliefs, tend to just be people interested in personal health, improving their life, and are independently responsible. I work with a lot of people who are supposed to be fit and aren't. Left/Right on the spectrum, doesn't matter.

I think girls and young women also are more into peer pressure. I have seen plenty of chunky leftists, too, to your point.

Peanut butter (powder)-banana smoothie with oat milk and just a titch of Nestle chocolate. It's what's for breakfast.

That is basically what my wife has for breakfast every morning. For chocolate she uses a scoop of chocolate Orgain powder.

I’m about to do a carb purge/keto thing. I’m done with this crap. I’m gonna allow myself a weekly cheat meal (breakfast on Saturday….pancakes at a favorite diner with Shari) to offset the nastiness of no carbs, but other than that, I’m eating lettuce and celery with unsweet tea until I die…..

Sucks, but it is what it is

If that doesn’t work long term, I’ve got a guy. Registered Dietician. He has walked the walk (major, sustained weight loss) that he talks about. He can get you where you want to be without drastic dietary changes. Good luck, though!

You're making a huge assumption that this crowd ain't full of certified Wal-Martians.

I resemble that remark.
