No wonder they call for money so much

1) Can't read the article without subscribing to the Wall Street Journal.
2) Everything the article says could be true and I would still be suspect. Their motives are clear; The WSJ is the definition of Mainstream Media.

I’m not clicking on the article, but I wager it’s the report Wayne LaPierre spent $240,000 on his wardrobe...

Hell the entirety of my wardrobe and my gun collection combined doesn’t equal that....:(

And all that I do have, I paid for myself. ;)

I got a call from them this morning. Caller explained that he was a paid caller and started his typed up speech. I said hold up, I'm a life member, Wayne needs to retire and to take me off the call list and then hung up.

I got the call earlier this week. Let her give her spiel about how I could upgrade my Lifetime to whatever she was offering and gave me some payment options. Use LaPierre’s name multiple times. She then asked which one would work best, and I said I’d be glad to do it. All it would take was Wayne resigning first. She didn’t say a word for 10-15 seconds so I hung up.

I feel the same way, Wayne needs to go! He’s been the Hack in Chief for way too long!

Have you EVER, in your ENTIRE LIFE heard GOA even mentioned in the mainstream media??? Take your time.....
Maybe because they choose to do the work instead of seeking the spotlight?

I don’t know. Everything (or at least a majority) I’ve seen them say aligns with what I believe. Definitely can’t say that about the NRA. I have to believe they’re getting stuff done, talking to representatives, and who knows what else.

The fact remains that the NRA is dead. It’s like watching that HBO series on Chernobyl & seeing those folks touch things, breathe things that they can’t... they may still be walking around now but they are dead men walking.... :(

And since the NRA is all but decommissioned, you need to decide how to lobby without them.

You have GRNC at the state level, SAF & GOA at federal level.

WE, as gun owners need to support the ONLY 800 pound Gorilla in the room, NRA.....

I'm not saying their the best but they are the only one that the Dems have any fear of crossing. They are the only one that the media even recognizes and follows what they are doing.

I'm not a paid spokesman just a realist that see's the handwriting on the wall.... and in the news...

"Board has full confidence"?! Sure, these f.gs simply routinely prevent gun owners from voting trustworthy people into the board. I stopped sending them money after two years long fight with membership service to start getting my voting ballots. They won, by the way. This year I didn't get my ballot again.

Moreover, after NRA and their darling mr. Trump supported unconstitutional ERPO and bump stock ban I cannot say that they are gun right's "gorillas", I would rather say that they "help" with effectiveness and elegance of an elephant in a china shop. Having such friends we need no enemy. Sorry.

I'm certainly not a shill for the NRA but the Dems have Got to be smiling from ear to ear. If They manage to finally kill the NRA my prediction of 9 years changes to 7.

SPeaking of GRNC - what happened to your post last night?

By the way, where is the next GOA convention? The day the NRA dies it will be the greatest victory by the Dems and the Libs in the the war to eliminate the 2nd Amendment. What's a real shame is the hatred that so many gun owners have towards the NRA. Evidently the propaganda of "divide and conquer" that the Left is using is winning the hearts and minds of many gun owners. Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing the GAO or any other pro-gun organization. But I get the impression that many of these organizations would love to see the NRA fail in hopes of gleaning some of its members. But they will never have the clout of the NRA. The NRA has a long history full of very influential people, both past and present. John Wayne, Eisenhower, Reagan, Schwarzkopf, untold Congressmen, popular actors, singers, the list goes on and on. So, keep bashing the NRA and wishing for it to die and we'll see what happens down the road when the Dems take back control of the government. They will crush the GOA like a bug. The NRA has been around for over 100 years and it will survive the likes of LaPierre. It had better!

Sounds like the Federal Reserve and arguments for keeping it

Dude, the NRA is the SEARS of guns rights... whatever they once were 50 years ago, now they are little more than a embezzlement scheme.

Let's review the situation....

1) If the NRA loses 501(c)(4) status, it can lose it retroactively going back up to ten tax years. If that happens, NRA will owe corporate income taxes on all membership fees and donations, plus interest and penalties. That's likely somewhere in the mid 9 figure range.

2) NY State is likely to win in the Carry Guard case. Damages and penalties there will be severe (but not as high as #1, above).

3) WLP should be concerned about embezzlement and tax evasion criminal charges.

4) Depending on how many of the above situations play out, RICO charges would not be too surprising.

5) A class action lawsuit on behalf of the members against the board and executive team for violating their fiduciary responsibility (especially easy to prove if #1, #2, and/or #3 happens), is not out of the question. There won't be any money left to recover after IRS and NY state bankrupts the organiation

And this is based on what we already know, which is just the tip of the iceberg. Any investigation into the NRA is likely to uncover new and interesting issues.

Am I to assume you have no motivation for this?? What a joke, you're not even national...Go put on your Rino suit and take a nap....

I personally appreciate the NRA negotiating away rights and liberties in a slow and controlled way as to just giving in all at once. And because of those small grass roots organizations who muddy up the water by not being a gorilla are to blame mainly for me being able to carry in a place that serves alcohol...funerals...parades...leaving it locked in the car as opposed to left at home at the kids school.

If it weren’t for the NRA where would we get all of the spam mail that we use as kindling? Or constant reminders about how they desperately need money; despite having a highly compensated set of employees?

Stupid grass roots organizations muck everything up with their stupid success ...

Actually yes I have. Not trying to stir the pot here but yes they’ve been in MSM. Of course the NRA is the largest org and therefore largest target, hands down.

We can choose to reinvent the wheel......or use what we already have and build on it, change the direction and get more done.
I'm a life member, never get any calls for money, just the annual foundation mailer and annual meeting promo.
No group is perfect, they do fight the battles they have a reasonable chance of winning, monitor CA, CO, NJ and NY among others.

I’m not seeing anything in your post to refute a word of what I said.

I am saying that the dream organization you have built up in your head isn’t real, possibly never was, but you are refusing to change with the times and it’s sadly not going to get better at NRA headquarters.

I’d love to wake up and see WLP & his $240,000 suits getting the heave ho. But it’s not happening.

The NY Attorney General is going to rake them over the coals & you need to start looking for other groups for your money & time.

Whatever, with the attitude some of you have you might as well turn 'em in at your local PD and don't forget to kneel and ask permission to return home while you're there.... For you, it's over...

The only federal gun control laws that have been passed in the last century have had the blessing of the National Rifle Association. What else do we need to know after finding out their also a Ponzi scheme? I have never never thought my rights come from a lobbyist

How in the world could anyone twist their logic so much to take "We like to support organizations that are far more active on a local level, and have marked victories recently over a massive national organization that has done nothing recently other than stand by and allow red flag laws to go unopposed and supported a bump-stock ban" as someone wanting to turn in their stuff just kneel and ask for permission to return home?

"Whatever, I was wrong, but as opposed to accepting that Ill just try to belittle you because I cant accept that I was wrong."

Billy, your correct the anti’s are loving this. Can’t help but how many backroom deals/plans are being discussed as we speak. I do believe that your timeline is off by 10 – 15 years. No matter what all of us are on count down.

This infighting, questionable spending, my age, minor health issues, and lack of convenient range time are leading me to reconsider my ongoing interest in the shooting sports. I’ve already sold off a few safe queens, and now looking at a few others. Your tag is on the one we spoke about.

They seem to get right to work for us. That's all they seem to do. They don't teach skeet shooting, they file lawsuits on behalf of the American people. They did not FUDD the bumpstock issue, it was a 2nd amendment issue and they jumped on it.

I got a call again tonight from the NRA. I stopped the girl and told her that I would not donate any more until Wayne was gone. She paused and then started back with her spill. I stopped her and told her she was not listening and to make sure to tell the higher ups that a lot of the membership wants Wayne gone.

Gentlemen - the NRA isn't the last line of defense of your Right to Keep and Bear Arms.

You are.

It is not a comforting statement, but it is a statement of fact.

If the malfeasance of the NRA prove to be its undoing, that's not the Democrats taking down the NRA.

It's the NRA taking down the NRA.

If in it's absence, the government tells you play time is over and to turn them in, the NRA isn't the one turning them in or defying tyranny.....

You are.

Politicians, even the "right' ones can't make things better. Nor can lobbying groups.

We, the People can. We, the People must, for it will be no one's fault but our own, through a conscious decision to not resist, that will be to blame.
