A friend showed me his no4 mk2, and I’m not able to identify it except for no4 mk2 stamped on the top of the receiver. There are no arsenal markings, or dates, only 8888 stamped on the wrist. Does anyone have any idea what he’s got? How about it @cubrock?

As they say a picture is worth a thousand guesses.[emoji2] It’s made by Fazakerley, the engraving on the body side and butt socket can be very light. The finish was phosphate and sunkorite.

Just had a look at my “The Lee-Enfield” by Ian Skennerton. POF Pakistan also made them. The serial number should have a letter prefix, unless it was renumbered because the original number was illegible after bead blasting. I know a retired REME armourer who said Fazakerleys were notorious for being lightly and messily engraved. Does it have a large transverse screw or bolt in the stock? That would be a good indication it spent time in India.

Don’t have the rifle with me, it belongs to a friend. This rifle appears to have the markings scrubbed, I’ll have a better look next time I see him. I have a 1955 unissued Fazakerley no4 mk2 that is clearly marked. Also have other Enfields that are clearly marked.

Hmmm....didn’t get the notification.

Sounds like an Arsenal refurb. Very common to see ones with markings almost entirely scrubbed off.
