Got this from the original owner. Probably less than 300 rounds fired. Looks like all the original accessories are with it. Has one old rust spot on the side of the receiver otherwise in very good condition. Never shot it myself and don't plan to. Need a starting price for it.

    I'd say $300-350

just because it's a USA only configuration, so it's not appealing to collectors really. As a shooter, the AK mags add convenience but the 10rd box mag is the most reliable.

The main advantage of the SKS over the AK is that 20" barrel, and this one doesn't have that. And the thumbhole stock is just fugly IMO. It's a shooter, so yeah $300-350

$585, $555 are the last two completed solds (not simply asking) on gunbroker for NIB or LNIB even if you bang it for the rust and it's been fired I'm thinking at least $400
Just my opinion based on objective data

I’d think because of what it is and watching them sell in the past for no other reason than it’s an sks that takes AK mags you’d get $450

$500 at least. They are the most desirable model of sks.

That is original what I was going to say but sales are down and they won't get any better with Christmas coming

$550 gets alot of other magfed 762x39 guns nowadays.

I would say an authentic Paratrooper model is the most desireable SKS and they sell for less than $500

Thanks for all of the comments, folks. Always good to see a variety of opinions because it really helps me decide what to do with the rifle.

If you see a sks that takes ak mags for sale somewhere I can sell a bunch for 500. I know one guy right now that would jump on one for that.

I had six of these new in box. First sold for $600. After that, they sat at gun shows for $500. It took me months to sell all six and I sold the last one for $400 after dragging it around for months. I was tired of looking at it and tired of hearing every weekend how “I used to buy these for (insert real or imagined 1990s price here).”

On paper, they are worth $500+, but they don’t always sell for that.

Do you have another? I have a friend that will pay $500 for one so it seems the market just went up.

The market is more than one person willing to overpay. GB value is usually market plus 10%

I think you better take a closer look at gun broker for the model he is selling because the cheapest SKS M model I could find that sold went for $650 with most in the 700 range. His takes ak mags and therefore is not a standard paratrooper but a M model. Now the ones that do not take ak mags sell for under 500 you are right about that.

No, he has an SKS Sporter, not an M model. If you look at closed auctions on GunBroker you will see a number of them sold under $500, and a few that sold in the $500s to $600s. You’ll also see plenty of closed auctions with no bids where the sellers’ starting prices were $600+.

The Sporters don’t bring as much as the M and D models.

Ok I agree I was wrong on the model number but even so and with another check of gun broker all the sks sporters with detachable ak type mags are still selling for over 500. I am not talking about unsold guns just sold ones as they are the market value. People on this site are famous for saying something is worth what someone will pay for it, so the market is determined by the most recent sale and if 500 or more is offered then that is the current market. Well everyone is entitled to there own opinion whether it is like mine or not.

I could be wrong, but I think it will be a struggle getting $500 locally unless the stars align and some collector whose actively looking for one sees it. Gunbroker prices don't always correlate to "real life".
These are neat rifles, but they're Chinese bubbas. Can't take standard SKS bolt parts, require heavy modification to fit aftermarket stocks.
For $100 more, you're in WASR territory.

I had one of these and wasn't impressed with it. For some reason changing mags was awkward compared to an AK, it often took me multiple tries to get the thing to seat. It might have just been mine - or me.

@charliesgrave and @Flashpoint are spot on. I'd take a Wasr 10/63 or a new production wasr over one of these any day for slightly more money. They were great $200 guns back in the day. Once you move into $500 territory.....not so much.
