I got suggested some videos from Vice about North Korea, several series. Like, for example, one was about labor camps in Russia, where they went to interview folks working in there and, essentially, people are forced from their lives in NK and sent to Siberia to log for years in squalor

One was a group of 5 motorcyclists from New Zealand who rode from Russia through NK to SK.

I watch more and more and realize how screwed up that place is...but also, Im intrigued and interested.
It's fascinating how the government puts so much money into 'showing off' while their people have nothing.
How they lock everything down, if a journalist goes there can be no GPS, only 'basic' cameras or video equipment, no cell phones etc

Just wild.

Im interested.
I'll never go for MANY reasons, but, as Ive said on numerous things on here, I'm always intrigued by a life so different from mine. You know, watching the Wrestling shows and how these guys are living, reading rock and roll tales, and, here, living in a country that has EVERYTHING locked down so tight and oppressive.

And I think that in times like these, when people are talking about tyranny this and political corruption that (yeah, there's def that one!), it shows us how good we really do have it here.
 
Never say never on the travel. It wasn't that long ago that a wall separated Germany and every border was a stamp in Europe.

True, but
a) his sister and others around him are just as bat crap crazy. He kicks the bucket and I feel that the NK people will be no better off
b) IF it changed then I'd probably have no further interest. I mean, it'd be interesting to find out what all went down over there, much like how in the past 30 years we've found out about (some of) the bad stuff USSR did throughout the decades.

But when watching these videos and everything is built on showing the rest of the world how 'good ' they are when it's all a facade...it's just interesting to me.
Putting so much money into LOOKING like youve got money/power
Putting on these huge shows for literally tens of people...when the show has hundreds of performers.
Having big dining halls and setting each table, putting out glasses of water and bread etc...and there are less people in there than on one hand
 
Also, with the A part - when his father Il passed I remember people saying that things might improve - here was a new leader that was Western educated etc, maybe he's different. He's not.

Problem these days is that a "Western Education" means "Capitalism has failed, I should be guaranteed 100,000 per year for my gender studies degree, but the patriarchy has won, but there are no genders, yet mine is fluid."
 
My wild and crazy idea is the same for NoKo and Iran, the woman will take these dictators out and open the country up to real elections and capitalist society.
 
North Korean leadership could change but not the country. The Military would not allow it. It would spell death for them and they know it so they reap the benefits while continuing on the same path.

And like preachers' daughters released from a strict home, could spend the next couple years half-drunk and sex-crazed while the USA carpet-bombs the place with old Victoria's Secret catalogs. Fix the place right up. :)

Love Vice and their 'coverage' of NK

Im still fascinated by it since it's so ass-backwards. And Im saddened that this Kim family is still in charge and ruining lives every day.


8 minutes on a guy who spent a decade using google satellite imaging to 'map' the country and has even 'discovered' nuclear waste leaks etc
