I was just looking at bullet selection for 6.5 Grendel VS 6mmARC. Hornady has the 123SST (.51 BC, .252 SD), and the 103gr ELDX (.512 BC, .249SD).

So the ARC has the ballistic advantage for match bullets, but in the field its neck and neck. In my book, the Grendel gets the go ahead win with more payload and energy, but ARC does have more velocity. Thoughts?

They are both really fine rounds and both are really accurate. The Grendel has the advantage with bullet selection. Shooting the same weight projectile there is very little velocity difference. Worked with both rounds and both are easy to reload for. Ballistics for .264 projectiles are hard to beat.

Following, I love the idea of a small-frame precision build. The 6.5 grendal seems to be relatively well established and I like the idea of a heavier pill at extended distances.

6 arc seems to be getting a lot of attention but it doesn't seem to have caught on as well yet. I'm not a reloader so the fear of buying into a soon to be extinct cartridge is always a fear.

No experience with the 6ARC. I got in the Grendel game probably close to 10 years ago. I have 3.

I've never had the opportunity to really stretch them out. I did take a deer with the 16" at ~190 yards. I also took a couple at 10 yards. It likes the factory SST.

My 20" Howa heavy barrel is a laser with the factory Hornady Black.

Some day I hope to find a decent load for the 12".

I haven't shot them much in recent years. Especially since the cheap plinking ammo went away.

I’ve got a 224 Valkyrie right now, I haven’t shot and got 100 rounds for it…

I had a 6.5g and it was a laser beam with the t-box barrel with JP bolt.

That Valkyrie ain't no joke, had dealings with only one and it shot great. Of the three calibers mentioned the Grendel is probably the best for a person that does not reload.

Depends on your purpose and range that you want to shoot.

Grendel has the better terminal performance. But the ARC is flatter shooting due to velocity.

They both lack lower weight for cartridge factory ammo offerings.

You may be hitting on something there with bullet weight. The ARC probably makes a better varminter than the Grendel, and vice versa for medium game.

Federal used to load the 90 gr TNT in the 6.5. Haven't seen it available since the start of the scamdemic. Someone else was loading an 85 gr. I think using a Barnes bullet.

The 6.5 has been used on everything from woodchucks to elk

In my obsessed mind, I’ve got the 224V AR, but I’d like to have a bolt action in the same caliber, for when I want to shoot suppressed and not have the gas noises. All things considered, the 6.5g is readily available in Ruger Americans, Savage briefly had a 224v bolt actions, but never can find one when I have the cash on hand to do so.

Digging through, no one is following through with building 6ARC bolt actions, CZ was going to, but with their quality issues on the 600 series, looks like that is set aside. Howa I think had some barreled actions maybe.

Again, in my mind, I’d like to have a semi auto and bolt action in the same caliber and small frame / AR15 mag sized. I considered doing a AR10 in 7-08 along with a bolt action, or just get a 223 bolt action to match my 18” ar…. But looking at small frame / light weight with light recoil.

Howa makes a 6.5G. If you want to go that route, I'd get the barreled action from Brownells. Put it in a good stock. Replace the crappy bottom plastic. There's a couple of different ways you can go with that from using the factory mags, using CZ mags, or a couple different variations of a blind mag

Like I say, it’s just my brain trying to work through something, then look squirrel….

Just like how I ended up with a cz457 and tikka t1x a week apart. I’m considering just doing a 18” 6.5 Creedmoor in a bolt action, it would make an ideal deer gun and longer distance if I get around to doing that…. Issues with having a scatter brain and expensive hobbies, like the DJI Mavic Pro that’s under my desk and flown 3 times.

Except the 6.5G will kill a deer just as dead as a 6.5C but with half the powder.

You're ~2 hours away. Find someplace halfway and I'll let you shoot it. It'd have to be in April or later.

I was having a lot of trouble getting the accuracy out of my Grendel I wanted, and so I've come near to buying a mini several times. Recently, I warrantied the scope and now have had some promising preliminary groups. I'll need to shoot some more to be certain. But I may still wind up with the Oryx version if I cant get my mind off it lol.

No lies detected.

I have an AR with a 16" Alexander Arms barrel. It's consistently sub MOA with Hornady factory loaded SSTs. The first time out with the Howa, I put 5 shots of Hornady Black in one ragged hole at 100y. My 12" Grendel? It's good enough for deer at out to 100. I haven't tried it at anything farther.
