This is one of TS Michael's tree victims up behind my house.

And this is about to become another victim if it gets windy before I can get a bucket truck up here in the backyard.

My neighbor's fence. It won't reach his house. But it will definitely take out a section of his fence.

I already volunteered to him that I would fix the fence if it gets hit. But the fence isn't my concern. My concern is this big tree falling and hurting/killing someone.

I told the neighbor not to be mowing that small strip of grass by his fence until I can get this big pine safely down.

It looks to be about 120' tall and is just barely hanging up against a smaller pine about 15' up and a similar size pine up at the top.

That looks dangerous as hell. Rope that area off ASAP. Hell I might knock it down now and count on paying for the fence just to eliminate the danger.

Put a rope in top of it, put a rope higher in another tree. Pulley at bottom of second tree, pull with Jeep to apply pressure. Cut from stump end in sections. Done it 100 times with just a rope and one other person. It can be done. Just a little scary at times :D

Also Dave. Be proactive and just go ahead and ask the neighbor if you can remove a small section of the fence temporarily. If he’ll agree to that. You’ve got it made

Yep. Your post just reminded me that I've got a big roll of bright yellow caution tape that I've had for years that I use to rope off the hole when the septic tank gets pumped. I'm going to go up there and mark off that area in the morning. Thank you sir.

Get @Chdamn ;) sorry, that was just mean.
But if you want some help, just call me. I have saws and climbing spikes.
And cable for pulling.

You're the man Basil...……….you're the man. (and I'm standing by quietly to see how long it takes @Chdamn to step up here....lol )

Lol.

I’ve got no problem cutting them down or cutting them up. But that one Id be a bit nervous of.

That’s and lawn chair waiting to hurt somebody.

I really appreciate it Basil. I've been texting with my neighbor and it turns out they are out of town. I'm going to rope the area off with caution tape in the morning. Because of where I live, there is very low risk of anyone else getting near this tree.

The height of this tree, even though it is leaning, is very high. It is split at the base and will definitely barber chair if it is cut at the base. Wouldn't want to climb up this tree as there is very little holding it up.

It's going to take a bucket truck to safely get this tree down. Thanks again sir. Thank you as well @Burt Gummer

Fixed it for ya.:D

Isn't auto correct just marvelous? Happens to me all the time.

I feel your pain.

My first thought when I saw this was, ""How'm I gonna get out?"

My second thought was, "You dumb F, what if you'd been under it??????" 26" dia where I cut it and I'm guessing at least 100' long.

We had one like that in the cemetery i used to work in. Trunk was broke up like that. I wrapped a chain around it to keep it from splitting more and falling on a house that was close by. Then I pushed it over with a track loader

If you were able to direct where it fell, is it clear over to where the blue trap is near the outbuilding?

Nope. The picture doesn't do the size and height of this tree justice. It is only going to go down the direction it is leaning. There are multiple trees between this pine and behind the outbuilding in the picture.

This is a very large, live and green, heavy, and full of moisture pine tree.

Yeah, that's a widow maker. I have one on the property where I hunt. Too dangerous to drop it. At least too dangerous with the cheap gear I have. It's been hanging there for about a year now.

I've done a lot of amateur tree work, but damaged, leaning trees are tough. I've got a handful up in the mountains, but nothing near the house. Most down the hill away from where people roam. Be careful we don't want to see you on a youtube video. There are lots of tree accident videos out there. Don't be a star in one.

Nope. Not me. I've also done quite a bit of amateur tree work over over 30 years or so mostly the last 13 since I've lived here. I have enough experience with trees and using chainsaws to tell me not to mess with this one. One thing that complicates this tree situation is the fact that it is leaning on a 6 - 8" Black Locust tree putting it under a heavy load. If you look at the first picture in my OP, you can see the Black Locust just to the right of this big Pine. If I would have pointed the camera further up the tree, you would see that the pine is to the right of the upper half of that Locust tree causing it to be bowed and under a load.

I realize that there are guys on here that have the equipment, knowledge, and experience to fell this tree but I just personally think it will be safer to get a bucket truck up there to take it down starting at the top. I could rent a big boom lift and do it myself but they are too heavy for my leech field. My septic field winds around all of those tree islands up there. Davey Tree has had their bucket trucks up there in the past with no problem.

I have at least 6 of them. If you come to W. Jeff I'll feed ya, hydrate ya, and give you a hot fire pit and warm bed for a weekend. Let me know.
