Not necessarily in your town but places you've been. I've mentioned in another thread about wanting to eat tacos from a Mexican food truck when I went to Texas.

Another place that I liked was Lulu's Bakery & Cafe in San Antonio. http://www.lulusbakeryandcafe.com/ My buddy and I sat at that bar and watched them cook the chicken fried steaks. The food was awesome.

Spicy fried catfish at Southern in St. Louis is friggin phenomenal!

https://www.stlsouthern.com

They even have greens on the menu that are excellent too.

Edit: we went Thursday for lunch. Got the chicken fried chicken, spicy catfish, greens and fried pickles.

I'll keep it in NC.

Toot N Tell in Garner!

Dam good patty melt from the drive through.

The buffet is awesome for that comfort food to make you feel back at home. Beats the pants off that Grandsons place in Smithfield.

Robins Nest in Selma is another awesome buffet.

Dammit now I want some fried catfish!

I really hate you guys.... I'm supposed to be loosing weight.

The New Deli in Fayetteville. Great sandwiches, Panini's, flat bread pizza, salads, on and on. Awesome chocolate covered strawberries and candy apples. Nothing is fried.
Food from a truck? R Burger. Probably one of the best hamburgers I've ever had.

I have been to Texas, many times; as well as southern Cali and Arizona. The best truck tacos I have ever had have been right here in Durham. Fish tacos? Gotta get those on the street in San Diego, or Tijuana (but you pay more in TJ).

Whiskey village in Philadelphia
Burgers are creative, fries in duck fat

Okay, you asked for it.

Chateau Frontenac in Quebec City, Quebec CN.

Inn at Gideon's Ridge in Blowing Rock, NC.

I have eaten some "alright" food around the continent but, these are the ones that stand out in my recollection.

It's a private club with a secret handshake. People will be watching you and evaluating your worthiness.
I have beef, pork, poultry, bullets, and both hands for the handshake lol

That run down cinder block 1-room shack on the beach in Gulfport, MS that had $5 pitchers of Miller Lite and $5 AYCE shrimp fresh off the boat. $5 got you a basket and all-access, scoop-as-much-as-you-want, privilege to a giant tub of questionable iced shrimp.

Best. Times. Ever.

Pudgies Steaks in Kulpsville, Pa....not the one in Bluebell. Same name but different family from the original that started in the 60's. Pudge cut the cheese(not whiz) in as he grilled the meat so it could be seen and they are awesome cheesesteaks! The best part of living near Philly is the food exposure....aaannnddddd thats about it!

Per Se in NYC run by Thomas Keller. It is in Lincoln Center overlooking the park. One of the best meals I have ever had in my life.

Le Bernardin also in NYC run by Eric Ripert best friend of the deceased Anthony Bourdain. Fish focused menu with absolutely perfect service.

Husk in Charleston SC which is the original location is a great take on low country southern cuisine taken to another level.

Kayne Prime in Nashville is an amazing steak house in the Gulch. Start with the homemade bacon with maple sugar cotton candy. Get a bone in tenderloin or bone in ribeye.

Chicken curry stew out of s food truck parked outside the airport in St Lucia. Waiting for our plane to depart watch truck after truck of construction workers get lunch so I had to try it. Amazing mind blowing local eats.

Russ and Daughters Cafe in NYC. The deli counter has been operating since 1914 and only recently opened the cafe. One of the 10 best restaurants in the city and in NYC that is saying something. Jewish deli, bagels, caviar and Jewish soul food perfection. The whitefish salad is amazing. The best smoked Lox in the country IMHO.

I could list restaurants all day. Most of my vacations are based on food destination travel. I love to eat at restaurants with Michelin stars and out of the back of trucks and everything in between.

I love me some falafel. I make it at home with homemade pita.

I'll be stopping by Ma's Grill in Coats on the way to H20 this morning. Haven't eaten there before, but I pass it every week. My wife last ate there about 35 years ago when she was in school near there.
She says I'll have a heart attack by Christmas.

Sounds like I'll really like it. :)

two spots in Fredricksburg, VA
-Mason Dixon Cafe
-Mercantile

Both are not cheap. For two people, with drinks, it was 40 for breakfast at both (granted, at Mercantile we each also got an app before our breakfast meal)
But both were great, ESPECIALLY M/D
Both places are all about farm to table, most of the things are from local growers and farms and the taste is better than most places Ive had similar items at
Both very filling.

Not somewhere to go often, but once a year I dont mind (though, this time I hit both in one year, six months apart, as a token of my appreciation for my bud taking me in)

ahhh.....one of the only things I miss from Michigan is the great Lebanese food! Can't find it anywhere around here.

My old stomping grounds. I lived in Fred Vegas for 15+ years. When I lived there both of these spots were different restaurants.

How do you mean?

I had to go up for a funeral this weekend, and my best friend is up there now (he and his wife are gov workers)
I really like that city, the old downtown is awesome, as well as paddle boarding the hannarack or whatever it's called etc

I lived in Fredericksurg from 1991 to 2010. Many locals refer to it as Fred Vegas. Back then it was still a small town with a small town feel. It was not a bedroom community to DC. The Downtown was not what it is today. I worked at Sammy T's while I was on college. It has changed ownership since I worked there, all the Emory's who were the owners have passed. Samual T Emory was a geography professor at the college. Students convinced him to open the restaurant back when the downtown was still recovering from all the stores moving to the mall. I loved living in the downtown area. My FFL was Corky's which is right on Caroline St. He has a hippie sort of boutique up front and a surplus store in the back. Corky is a weird guy. He would do all my transfers for $10.

I still own a house there in the downtown area. It is a block from the upper part of the Rappahannock River. The downtown is really nice now. It has really changed from when I lived there. We were "Townies" in that we lived and worked in the downtown area of Fredericksburg and avoided the sprawl that surrounds it. It has become a pretty good food town. I still make it that way every now and then on my way to seeing family that lives in Arlington.

Mason Dixon Cafe used to be a Hardees way back in the day. It then was a diner and then a sandwich shop which sold the biggest sandwiches in town. It is right next to Carl's which is a Fredericksburg institution. Some of the best custard style soft serve in the country.

Merchantile used to be a bakery and catering shop call Eline's. The original owner of the restaurant space renovated in in about 2005 IIRC.

Guys if your ever in Troutman or Newton you need to stop at Dixie's fish and chicken. It is kind of like a fish camp style food but man its so good and huge portions.

Heading west on I-70 a while back I stopped in the rather dull town of Hays, Kansas and stumbled onto possibly the best fried chicken I have ever had at a joint called Al's Chickenette.

I went to a place in Fredricksburg this weekend called Mercantile, upscale eatery, farm to table fresh. Very good, but not cheap.
But very good.

Anyway, my sausage patty had to have been at least 6oz, if not 8, looked larger than most burgers you get at restaurants!
And while it wasnt as good as Neese's (I do love that brand!), it was really really good
