I am in Parkersburg, WV this morning and, as is often the case, decided to troll around a few pawn shops and gun shops in search of old Colts and Smiths. Googled "gun shops Parkersburg" and found a listing for "Novak's." It was only a couple miles from the hotel. I rolled up to a small secured facility with no sign. Not your typical gun shop.

I called and they buzzed me in. Told them I was looking for revolvers. They said that they don't sell guns but work on quite a few, mostly 1911s. They were sorting through and disassembling a stack of U.S. marked 1911s during this conversation. The gentleman behind the counter asked if I had ever heard of Novak Sights....and it clicked. Yup, I was standing there talking to Wayne Novak. Of course I had heard of Novak Sights. I felt sort of silly having just walked into his place, so clueless. He could not have been any nicer. We talked for a few minutes and he pointed me toward a few local pawn shops known to occasionally have older Colts and Smiths. He gave me a hat. It was just a neat and unexpected experience.

That's a cool deal there sir, too bad he didn't give any samples to try.

Wayne has cut many slides for his sights. Nice guy and nice product.

I have several 1911s from Wayne's shop that were built by my late friend Joe Bonar when he was Novak's 1911 head smith. It is my understanding that they are no longer building custom guns, only doing sight installs now.

Did you get to see Wayne's dogs? His Rottweilers used to be a fixture in the shop.

No. I went through a door that opened to a small room with a counter. No dogs in tht area. They may have been elsewhere in the shop.

That's pretty cool. Kind of funny that you didn't make the connection with the name at first haha.

Novak should have received 2 Colt 1903 .32s from me last week. He is to put on his sights and extended safety for them. Should make a nice pair. Ken Hackathorn hand delivered a BHP to him for me once. He lived right across the line in Marietta Ohio and was at Novak's a lot. They did their complete FBI HRT package for me and shipped it back for $100. Ken and Novak were quite a formidable pair at a gun show. They both once had a thing for Beretta 70S models in .22. Ken took Novak to S&W and introduced him to Tommy Campbell, who was S&Ws factory shooter at the time. That got the ball rolling for Novak and his sights and the S&W connection. And now he is rich&famous.

Wow. This thread came back from the dead.

Updated the hat picture since Photobucket killed all my old links. Still wear that hat a lot. Fits great.

They got a Hi Power from me last week too! Maybe our boxes will get mixed up!!

I worked for a bank who was headquartered in Parkersburg. When I would go there for training there were two places I would stop by. First was the NET https://www.netbrewery.com/ second was Novak's shop just to check it out.
