Got a little chunk of keymod picatinny rail on the side of my AR now, in preparation for a light.

Using streamlight on my pistol, any reason not to get a 2 CR123 version for the AR?

(probably could go in the accessories section, but I'm curious what people are using on their ARs more than just lights in general).

@drypowder tried some different ones.

I stuck a streamlight railmount on mine and I quite like it. But only used it once in a match so far.

It's easy to have a NLD (negligent light discharge) with the paddle switch on a TLR-1 or similar pistol light mounted to a rifle.

Depending on purpose for rifle, NLD may not be an issue.

Shameless plug: Have a IWC Radial universal light mount listed in BST Accessories. It can mount pic rail mounted lights like the TLR-1, Scout mount lights or ring mounted lights.

I have 1 SureFire X300 and the rest are Streamlight TLR1s. My HD carbine wears the SureFire w/ an Aimpoint just because it gives me a little more warm fuzzy feeling BUT my TLR1s on my HD G17, my M1S90 and another carbine have never given me a minutes problem. Sad thing is I bought 3 TLR1s on a Black Friday sale for a few bucks more than I paid for my X300. As to customer service SureFire is SureFire so it’s excellent no questions in the couple times I had service because of mistakes I made. As to Streamlight I busted the switch of a TLR1 ... they sent me a new compartment door at no charge. I sprung my pocket clip on my EDC light (Streamlight ProTac 1L) and they sent me another one again at no charge ... Streamlight has proven excellent customer service to me.

Yea, I noticed the scout 600 setup is running $400+ for all the widgets that come with the Streamlight HL-X for $120.

I like the ProTac 1L for my rifle. If you ahve the real estate the 2L is a good option too...

Thinking this may be a good choice for a rifle-centric option: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06VTLLDH4

I am running those on 3 different rifles. Love em.

To be fair, I do sell these at the store ($99.95), but, multiple members can attest to using them out here at the house.

The only one that I do any different is that I run one of the lighter Pro-Tacs on my AR pistol.

Just a heads up the surefire scout lights at optics planet were on sale with code flash17 for $200ish when I ordered one a couple days ago. Like 11b mentioned, Will had a super deal for the pad, cap, and cloud defense mount. Got the whole set up for just a bit over 3 bills. On the other hand the streamlight set up is hard to pass up. Good luck buddy.

I've had a Streamlight for years, it's very dependable. Recently got an Inforce (800 lumens), and like it so far.
I also use a $15 led flashlight in a $12 QD picatinny mount. And, yes it does hold up to recoil.
It's got at least a thousand rds downrange with the light mounted, and still works fine. Not glamorous, just functional.

And there it is. The switch mounts pretty well right there on top. It seems pretty easy to use my support side thumb to just reach up and trigger the momentary switch.

Dunno about the tactical zip ties, but there appears to be no way to shorten the cable and they include those ties so it must be a common thing?

I'll likely need another, so it's good to know I can grab it local.

If you put it on a mount like this it will put it at about the 1:30 position and fit better on the rifle.

@Jayne , don't sweat the "tactical zip ties." If it's stupid and works, it isn't stupid. My first issue M4 still had the round handguards, I used zips ties and duct tape.

As for a light...I second used/surplus M951s. They are a steal.

I have one of the HSP Thorntail mounts for my Inforce WML. Works awesome!

Not sure I would recommend buying from Evike though, they are an air soft company.

Didn’t even notice the Evike part. I got mine from amazon and it shipped from HSP.

The hsp thorntail mounts are pretty sweet. I'm looking at the arisaka mounts at the moment.

Love my thorn tail mount. I’ve got a hsp WML inforce light on it.

I really like the thorntail. It places the flashlight perfectly on my rail. There are plenty of good options these days though.

Yea laser and light combo. You apparently can set it up to do IR lasers, visible, and maybe nightvision lasers? There are other manufacturers and you use a combination of pressure switches and such to operate all along the spectrum of available light and your means of seeing.

Sounds badass.

But I think I don't need it, heh.

Look for a surplus M951 and drop an LED bulb in it. Last one cost me $40 total.

M-series on a Thorntail with a Malkoff conversion is schweet.

The rail mounted tape switch with momentary and on/off is icing on the cake.
