Note: after watching them, the second video is definitely a prequel to the first...uses the same footage at the end that you’ll see at the beginning of the first one I posted

Ran across this video today:

It sounds like it’s the first of a series...I enjoyed watching and learning. When I went to his channel, he has this one (about to watch it now) from a month ago:

I’ll keep an eye out for future episodes.

Very Interesting.
Subscribed to the channel, Thanks!

I'm always surprised when I watch these documentaries...
There were no cameras / pictures allowed onboard when I was stationed on Subs in the 80's & early 90's

Destin does some really cool stuff, super smart guy and is able to relay high level info in a simple manner. His videos tend to be long but definitely worth the watch.

I’m watching the sub video right now.
I had Bree sit through one on weed eater strings recently. Told her if I could choose any career out there, it would be his.

I saw that video too. Haven't watched it all yet, but it's in the queue.

I'm impressed that the Navy allowed a regular old YouTuber on board. I think Google is giving him a push to the front page of YouTube.

Chief and I will be working on the Toledo later this year, and I'm certain we won't be filming anything onboard like that.

Nice!. The Toledo is home ported at Subase Nlon in Groton where I worked. Been on it and many other Los Angeles class. They are amazing feats of engineering. And no there is not much room. LOL

Yup a great area. Born and raised in Waterford across the Thames. If they could move the whole area out of CT it would be great lol

My sister lived over in Waterbury for a while; we would go to the base from time to time. Ironically, when I was in college I dated a gal from Noank for a bit. Family was richer than hell.

Edited to add, I agree: that little strip of the coast is awesome.

I believe that at one time (maybe still) he worked for one of the BIG defense contractors so he likely has the means to get access to some of the cooler stuff. Will definitely have to watch these new videos as his stuff is ALWAYS cool and I always learn something new.

FWIW...

The second video I posted is definitely a prequel to the first. It ends at the same scene as the first one begins (usually a minute or so of the same footage). Won’t hurt to watch them out of order, just wanted to point it out.

You know what I like about watching that? Those men. Competent, confident, low-key individuals you would want beside you when the SHTF. What a breath of fresh air to be reminded we still have men like that, after all the crap we see in the news. If I ever meet one, drinks are on me.

That's because he didn't go back aft and meet the complete tards that make the boat go.

Just a curious question after watching the video. Can you smoke on a sub or is the smoking lamp only lit while on the surface?
No smoking on any Navy vessels as of a few years ago.

Call me petty but I've always had a problem with celebrities getting to enjoy things like this and rides on fighter jets etc. I should also be able to ride on a fighter jet.
All you have to do is:
  • Have a large audience
  • Be entertaining and likable
  • Make it a positive promotion to what they do
  • Provide free advertising for the Army/Navy/Air Force/Marines
  • and other stuff, having boobs helps.

Ok, Petty. What are they supposed to do, grab some random schmuck off the street and take him for a ride?

Anyone can ride a sub, fly a jet, fire a cannon...

My wife has gone underway on a sub, an aircraft carrier and an L-boat (Iwo Jima) and is not military.

I avoid that level of responsibility at all costs.

Yes, there are PR cruises, Tiger cruises, family day, etc. Riding AC, though, has a specific set of rules.

Those were all real underways while she lead maintenance. She crossed the Atlantic on the Truman and was gone for a week on the USS Newport News.

Yeah, they do have civilian contractors aboard. The big boats even have NCIS aboard, and often on a deployment will carry a detachment of alphabet soup people.

I had flown onto the Ike to do some training and was eating in the wardroom and a couple civilian contractors waltzed in, running their mouths about something or other. The president of the mess (XO) banished them to eating in their rooms for the rest of the deployment.

It's designed to sink. :) The Lt. had a nice MIT shirt with the three equations.

Everything is a target....[emoji6]

IceEx 2000, and decommissioning, was what made me decide to extend while aboard the USS L. Mendel Rivers (SSN-686) prior to going to shore duty.

Somewhere I've got a one liter bottle of Arctic water from the North Pole.

Walking on the icepack is...surreal. It's a beauty like no other. One of my favorite views was the low sun shining through a section of ice ridge that was the most awesome shade of blue.

It's also really cool coming up through the hatch and still having to climb over two or more feet of ice that was cut away to clear the hatch.

Some guys brought hockey gear and cleared a section of ice to play. Met Santa at the North Pole. Grilled hotdogs and hamburgers on the ice. Circumnavigated the world several times while at the North Pole.

Lots of good memories there.

We did lock-in/lock-out in torp tubes. Hated it. Hated. It.

I could only imagine. Watching Destin crawl in that tube with nothing but a flashlight looked to be a PITA. With the scuba gear it would be even more of a pain and if you had any other gear would just exacerbate it rhat much worse.

I'm sure laying in a 24inch by 20 ft tube in the pitch black while it filled with water, then pressurized had its own set of problems too.
