Oct./Nov. 2020 Rimfire Challenge

Worked on sighting in the new CZ 457 ProVarmint. Vortex 5-25x50

no bags and bipod only.

i was in a hurry to get home and leave for a 4 day weekend. But I’m happy with the rifle and can’t wait to get to know it better.97643624-62CF-42EA-852A-ADC4FD93E129.jpeg

I just got back from ENC and trying this. I'm not likely to set any (high) records, but I had fun and learned quite a bit more than I would in a normal blasting session. ... like my scope needs to be mounted to provide at least another inch of eye relief. I'll retry this again after some tweaks.

Please let me know if I scored this accurately, as there's some borderline calls there on the edge of the 9 ring.

This was really fun! I'll have to take the Win 52s out and try again with some vintage stuff. The Savage "Ranger" has a nice Unertl 4x , but my old eyes need all the help they can get , and whatever that is, it's more than 4x ! (The old SuperTarget has 12X which should work out well!)

Score: dunno
Rifle Tikka T1X
Scope Vortex Diamondback
Ammo CCI standard velocity
Rest Front Chinesium bipod- Rear rest: Shoulder :)
Fun High

Here's a couple (by my count, a 94 and a 93 maybe)View attachment 258681View attachment 258682

At first glance, I think you missed the note on scoring that the small targets are with 10-7-5. Looks like you might’ve tried 10-9-8?

it helps if you write the score over each hole

top target I see:
Three 7s on the small targets
Two 10s and three 9s for sure in the center, and would need a closer look at the other two
So an 86, 87 or 88, depending on the two

bottom target I see:
Two 7s and probably a 5 on the small ones
An 8, a 9, and five 10s in the center
86

Yes, you're right. I redid the image and the scoring . I'm really not sure how to score the "leaners" that are close to the line since this is my first go round with it. Is it the circumference of the bullet that must touch or break the line that counts?

Fun stuff. I'm going to have another go at it.

in order to better know how to score these in the future, here's a better pic. I don't care about the score, but I want to be able to interpret the shots accurately. Thanks!

I came up with 67 4x10=40 and 3x9=27

Thanks. I can't wait to try again next week.

What magnification are you using with your optics?

I probably would’ve scored it one less than ECNC.

I think the borderline 9/10 shot on the left is a 10, but the one on the right is a 9.

Thanks for joining us, always great to have new shooters!

You win the prize for the best looking range !

^Shoot. Sorry my pictures are so big. I thought they would post as a quadrant of photos, instead of lining them up down the page. I'll have to figure out how to post them better.

I have a .17 HMR with a lot of magnification I think I'll try, just to see what happens with more zoon. I was only using 12x

That is not bad with a 9x scope, as it gets hard to shoot paper at 50yds with 9x. The three side targets all missed in about the same place with two being almost identical, which is great. And aside from the top flier, the other in the center were a great group considering the glass.

I suck.

@Exile_D there to witness the suckage. He was polite enough not to laugh at me and laughed with me instead.
Good consistant shots! It's great to have several people taking part in our games. Keep up the great shooting and having fun! And guys, please show us some pictures of the guns and setups, we love seeing the guns! Gives us something to drool over! 🤗

Finally got to shoot! After a busy work month in October and selling my air rifles, my new one arrived yesterday. (I was gonna pick up another rimfire, but shooting pellets this accurately for cheaper is just too much fun.) I know this is a rimfire challenge, but I still have fun doing this.

Rifle - FX Crown MKII 22
Ammo - JSB 25.4gr RD shooting 920 FPS (wrote wrong speed on target)

I was testing pellets and speeds for a couple hours, and after deciding which pellet/speed combo had the most promise, I decided to shoot a target before going inside. 1 try... that flyer on the third shot at the center had me worried at first...

We still have a couple days to get some targets in! I hope to get out and give it another try, maybe tomorrow. I hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving!

I went out Friday at ENC but between the fact that all the target holders had floated away to New Bern, and the wind was causing the staple shaped campaign sign holder I was using to hold my target to bob in the wind AND the fact that I'm not a great shooter, it was more of a disaster than last time.

On the other hand, I rediscovered that my 17 HMR is a laser beam.

Tested some more with the new pellet rifle so decided to shoot one more with the same pellets from yesterday and tested the best speed with the 18gr pellets too. The 25 grain always shoot better due to the higher BC, but I found a winning combo shooting the 18gr around 878 FPS.

I printed a couple targets and drove out to the range on friday. It was slammed! o_O I thought maybe I would have time on saturday or sunday, so I didn't wait around for an empty table. Well, it's sunday evening now and I never made it back out to the range. 😡 If everyone wants to get their last minute targets in, we will get a winner later this week! Thanks to everyone who is joining us. Take care.🤗

We need to pick a winner! ECNC had 2 100 point targets and Smok3y had 3 100 point targets! Who wants to decide the tie breaker, or should we go with the most 100 point targets?

Thank you to everyone who posted a target this month, I hope you enjoyed shooting with us and we look forward to having you shoot with us again soon.

There was a tie-breaker method listed, but I’m not sure it’s worth messing with at this point. Heck, I didn’t even make it out to shoot my own target. I made a couple trips to the range, but always had higher priorities while I was there.

Let’s see the new target! Itching for an excuse to dig out the 457

Smok3y's 3rd target was the best target... His 1st target was a 99 (IMO).

Looking forward to next month's target... Please make it something open sight / peep sight guys can shoot. :)

Dang. I wasn’t ready for this. I will find a Christmas one or make one.
New post is up, ready for target. We had a Christmas gift target one time, all the gifts were different colors and sizes. I don't remember how we scored it. Another thought, if your making one, might be a Christmas tree with different points for different ornaments?? Whatever you pick, I'm sure we will have fun!🎅

That is the one we had last year. I found a snowman and a tree like TNT mentioned. Let me see if I can get printable versions or we will make one similar.
