Off to DC again, a city I really enjoy visiting. Just up a couple months ago in July, I knew, then, that's where I'd be proposing.
WOW, wild stuff. Mind boggling, to me, actually.

Safe travels!

I spent some time in the DC/Baltimore area when I had a geothermal product sales job with a MD-based company. As much as I loathe what goes on in that town, I have to admit I had a good time while there, generally speaking. I quickly figured out where not to go. The other areas were full of interesting and mostly friendly people.

Good luck with the proposal, OP, unless I misconstrued the tenses and that's already done.

Not sure I could recommend DC as a place to make a promise, though.

Political snarky aside, I lived in Alexandria, VA, for two years in the mid-90s, commuting into DC (NRL to be precise). The traffic even then was horrid with the "double-wave" rush hours both morning and evening (government the early). Sure, there are a lot of attractions, but I did not feel comfortable there.

I had a couple projects in Manassas before they gave me the option of moving there or getting laid off. As soon as the bosses completed the sentence I said give me my lay off papers. It might as well be a neighborhood of DC. I have visited some shit holes in my construction life but between the people, the traffic and the general assholiness of the place I wouldn't move there or anywhere close to there for no money.

He might be good with the proposal. I wouldn’t trust a vow made there though…🤣

I was there twice and neither time was fun. First time was with 3 Germans that had to check of all the Touristi boxes so went spend 2 days walking around in freezing cold weather staying in a crappy hotel. Second time was for a funeral, while Arlington and the "Old Guard" (burial of wife of a vet with small honor guard) were truly touching needless to say it wasn't exactly fun.

Been to DC more than several times but less than a bunch.

The "history of the greatest nation ever" stuff is fun, but after a while it gets to be a lot of work for a few new nuggets hidden amoungst a lot of what you already knew.

The DC "Magic Moments" in my life happened twice for me: The old stereotypical "jazz-cat" guy playing saxophone in the cavernous stairwell of the long descent to the Metro/subway/tube platform from Dupont Circle. Then there was the January Sunday morning, very very cold, clear and very still. I went to The Wall to find the name of an old friend, there was hardly anyone else there. The heat of the sun radiating off of it, my sad reflection in it, I finally understood the immense power of the design.

Best to you, have fun, be safe.

Hell, lets just keep it rolling, not all about the engagement.

For lunch today
We went to Old Ebbit Grille, apparently one of the oldest restaurants./bars in DC and one of the busiest in the country. A popular spot among the theives, I mean politicians...Wait, I was right the first time.
Anyway, some of TRs trophys on the wall. Delicious food - I got the chicken and waffles.

We did the Holocaust Museum today, she'd not been - it was great being able to 'teach' her ha
Stopped by/near the Washington Monument
Dinner at the hotel as we were both tired.

And I ended with a celebratory cheerwine. Cause why the heck not. ...eh, on second thought, maybe I wont show that shower with a cheerwine pic...for your sake lol

This was the only place we ate in all of DC that I really enjoyed. We went in with 8 people and they sat us downstairs in an area the waitress said most people don't get sat in because of senate types. But because they were on break they opened it up. Really awesome place.

Nothing says romance like the holocaust.

So speaking of the romantic holocaust trip...and DC. I carry knives. Knives are tools, I like tools
For years Ive had this one altoids tin with stuff in it...not mints. Yesterday/this trip it's got a very small, keychain sized leatherman, bandaids, clear plastic tube that stores some tylenol and toothpicks (got a little end cap on one end and i put a cork in the other), chapstick,, a foot of string, and a leatherman knife. Blad about 2.5 inches I'd guess. Well, in years no security guard ever opened my tin. Good.
And in my pockets were my phone, wallet, and microstream flashlight.

Yesterday I set off the metal detector. Made sure everything was out of pockets - forgot the wallet. Ok.
Go back through, alarms again.
So now they want to wand me, starting with the front - belt buckle (just a standard buckle, not large) set it off...then my redwing boots, they have the rivets and stuff, set it off. Im having to pull pant legs up etc.
Then he tells me to turn so he can want my back. When I turn I see the conveyor belt lady holding this little green knife (it's the girlfriends, I got it for her last year) - "oh, Im sorry, I forgot I had that..."
She smiled and said, "It's ok, it's under the limit, but just barely"
I smile and say thank you. Then she say, "Smart kit you got there, good stuff"
"thank you ma'am, you know youre the first to open the tin up"

She knew I had a knife and let me roll through anyway...while Im setting off metal detectors constantly
