I was talking online recently about my match pistol (shoot close quarters 3 gun with it) and someone told me it wouldn't be legal in USPSA or IDPA so I thought I'd ask here. I've thought about trying out a USPSA match close to me, but wanted to know before I went to the effort.

I'm running an M&P 9 with an Apex forward set kit, Truglo TFO front sight in front of factory rear, an LF Arms extended mag release (likely to swap that for the Crux Ordnance soon) and TTI +6 mag extensions.

Can I get feedback from folks in the know if I'm legal?

I understood that I'd be confined I category with USPSA owing to the trigger, but want to be certain.

Thanks!
Ruffy

Should be ok in USPSA Limited, but you handicap yourself (IMO) with minor.
Get some stock mags and come May (16th?) and I am pretty sure you'll be ok in Production.

IDPA uh, I think you might be ok in ESP. Not sure though.

Rules to both are online, pretty clear.

Correct. I shot an M&P 9 with Apex trigger like that in ESP, so it should be fine for IDPA.

I wouldn't worry too much about this until you're at least classified and shot a few matches. It's a slight disadvantage, but you will still learn from getting out and shooting some matches.
This. Get out and shoot some matches. Learn the game then worry about the rest.

Thanks again, y'all.

It's worth explaining that I shoot competitions with practice and experience as my goal, not winning.

Major/minor will never be a factor for me for that reason. I don't own any guns for competition that I wouldn't grab for defense. Yes, I tune them, but not beyond what would be considered safe for carry.

Never say never. I know several people who said these exact words in the beginning but then they get the addiction, myself included.

You'd be surprised what you can do with practice. There is a GM out in Oregon or Washington who shoots USPSA with his carry rig. If I recall correctly he runs a Glock 34 in Limited so he can use his IWB holster.

Gabe White is the exception to the rule.
