Considering a new division for Old Fort 3 Gun at @VOD Tactical

We’re calling it “3/4 Gun”. This will let you PCC shooters in on the fun! (Attn @TrappyBoy ). In this division, shooters may utilize 4 guns throughout the match, but only 3 guns on any single stage.

1. Centerfire handgun in a traditional Tac Ops caliber (9mm, .45ACP, etc). No restriction on optics or accessories
2. Shotgun - tube or mag fed, optics allowed
3. Centerfire rifle in a typical Tac Ops rifle caliber (5.56, 7.62x39, etc). No restriction on optics or accessories
4. PCC in a straight walled traditional pistol caliber (9mm, .45ACP, etc) No restrictions on optics or accessories

Essentially, the rules mirror Open Class plus you can have a PCC in your kit. On any given stage, the shooter may choose to use the PCC OR the rifle, but not both. There is no rifle/handgun/PCC only division so if you are shooting a PCC, bring a shotgun for the clays.

If the shooter is using the PCC on a stage:
1. Pistol designated targets may be engaged with the PCC or handgun.
2. Rifle targets MUST be engaged with the PCC.

I will take this poll incredibly seriously, evaluate your meaningful responses and then do whatever I decide to do anyway.

Discuss!

Gonna be very niche, but why not. It’s not hurting any ranking in the other divisions.

I read other thread so I now see you are attempting to accommodate people who want to try other stuff. That’s great!

So, if someone wants to shoot an MP5 for their rifle, that’s cool. Likely take two pot shots at the long range steel and move on with the knowledge that you are getting two misses on long range steel, because you brought a subgun to a rifle match.

If you are just there for fun it’s really not impacting your score or placement all that much. Just run it and enjoy. No need to create a new division. Just my opinion!

Our goal at this match has always been to maximize the FUN. We’ll leave the serious stuff for the majors with big prize tables and $300 entry fees.

Like I said, this is being considered - not definitively implemented just yet. The purpose in creating a new division is specifically so nobody gets their panties in a bunch re:scoring.

Whatever works. You got lots of experience ROing and whatnot. I think you’re doing a great job.

To make sure I understand, the people with PCCs would be in open class with other open class shooters without PCCs?

No.

They would be all by themselves in a new Class/Division called “3/4 Gun”. We’d have:

- Open 3-Gun (rifle, pistol, mag or tube fed SG, unlimited accessories)
- Tac Ops 3-Gun (rifle, pistol, tube fed SG, limited accessories)
- 2-Gun (rifle, pistol)
- 3/4 Gun (rifle, pistol, mag or tube SG, PCC, unlimited accessories)

I made a minor edit above to clarify (…the rules mirror Open…)

This part confuses me - is one limited to ONLY mag-fed SG in Open and limited to ONLY tube-fed SG in Tac Ops? Or is it that Mag fed is an option in Open but not in Tac Ops?

The other parts are clear.

Then I say roll with it! Might be away to get some new shooters into the shooting sports.

This is very similar to what the UML rule set refers to as "2x4." However, in UML you may only use 2 different firearms per stage vs the 3 per stage you are suggesting.

Absolutely requires very diligent stage design that is heavy on options.

Squad turnaround time on a stage will run longer due to more making ready of guns and clearing the line afterwards.

No harm in trying something new.

I think its a great idea. I loved the 2x4 division in UML.
I dont understand making you shoot rifle targets with pcc. It should be an option not mandatory.
Uml only required 2 guns used per stage

I always defer to options based on shooters preferences that makes it more fun

John, maybe I worded it awkwardly. My intention is to say that rifle targets are still in play. I.e, You don’t get to skip the 400yd target if you grabbed the PCC.

Our match has always emphasized shooters choice with most targets being rifle/pistol or shotgun/pistol.

That makes more sense
