Hey,
Hope it's okay to ask but what is the "old forum" so often mentioned here? I see several people migrating from it.

Most of us originally met on the first forum named Carolina Shooters Club. The owner there was absent and never allowed for the admins to make changes to update the site and make it run better. After a few years it became bogged down and started having outages.

A couple of the guys started a new forum named Carolina Shooters Forum. They eventually bought the other forum and merged the two. It was well run but unknown to the rest of us, the owners were simply building membership and traffic to make the site available for sale.

The worst part of that was who they sold it to. A canadian based company that is known for data mining and itself owned by the Toronto Star which is an anti gun company.

That really didn't sit well with the members and a few of us started this site and everyone came over.

If you read what we have posted, this site is divided among 5 owners equally and will never be for sale. While we want to grow in membership we do not subscribe to google ads or anything of the like. This is not a for profit venture for us and any money we collect from member support and sponsors/vendors we will use to keep the site running and then push back into the community by supporting grassroots efforts and giveaways etc.

Welcome to the forum, we hope you enjoy it and hand around for awhile.

Chad

Got CSF and CSC backward, but otherwise yeah what he ^ said...

There are also hundreds of members here from another 'old forum'...one that resigned itself to the Great North State rather than both Carolina's.
You'll hear folks refer to this NC forum as "the other place" or some such also.
And this NC forum did exactly...and I mean exactly...the same thing that the 'old forum' you've inquired about did.
Sold out to the very same Canadian based company.
The Canucks came shrieking in and with weeks, bought out the only two gun forums in the Carolina's that had any real traffic. And no, they had no intention of leaving either of them as they were.

The regulars, myself included, were hell-bent. So if it appears that we're hell-bent when we refer to the old places, it's because we are.

The way we look at it (because it's true), is we didn't jump ship from them, they jumped ship from us.

I see, gentlemen. Sorry, I didn't mean to dig up old bones, just wondering what the "old / other forum" referred to. So, now I know. Thanks.

No problem, we don't mind. If it was not for the others selling out, we would not be here. We're very proud of this forum and proud of all of you that make it much better than any other "old forum" ever was.
I had a new member tell me the other day that he had never been on any site that had the feel that this forum has. I told him that I understood and it was because of all of the members, we're a family.

No need to be sorry. There are some of the best people in the Carolina's here. We'll answer the questions of our humble beginnings. This site was up an running in as little as a few days. We didn't miss a beat. There have been folks joining every day since.

Join in. Glad to have you.

The one thing that will amaze you is the amount of knowledge here. You have a problem somebody will have an answer for that problem. HVAC, cars issues etc and somebody will be by and help. And by help, these folks will lend a hand actually help.

This place is by far the best community on the web.

I'd like to make a correction, this site was up and running the same day that the word got out that our old place was sold to the Canadians. This was just a few days before Christmas. People had family obligations, Christmas parties to attend, school and church programs, and just normal Christmas hustle and bustle, but our IT guys worked throughout the nights and weekends continually to constantly make improvements. From behind the scenes, it was nothing short of amazing.

I will agree on the amount of knowledge on any subject and the willingness to help and share the knowledge.

The other NC site also filtered any references to this outstanding forum and censored posts.
I came from NCG because one of you fart smellers posted the CFF link as your Morse code signature. I googled it to see what he/you had to say. Then laughed when I realized what the multiple comments about posts being censored was about.

I posted a jpg of https://www.carolinafirearmsforum.com/index.php on NCGO and it lasted over a week before they deleted it!

...and I for one wouldn't hold it against the 5 or making a little scratch off of it. Its the best run, moderated, and managed forum I have ever been a part of. At least enough to buy a case of beverage, a ceegar, or a trip to Olive Garden for their all you can eat salad and breadsticks.

Or a brick of 22lr for access to the platinum section.

I joined CSF in 2009 on the recommendation of one of the members I knew. I think he made it here eventually. I know he was on the Canadian site.

I've been witness to a couple of these forum splits, and we're lucky. Usually the guys I view as being in the right end up with less traffic and a smaller, slower niche site that never competes with the original.

Good thing about this place. The heavy posters and active members from 2 forums came here. We don’t have the numbers, but we have the members that made the numbers. And we’re adding folks daily.

I must admit, that I remained a member over there until last night. I actually found you guys after reading a rant from pole smoker ML over there... after finding my home here I kinda slid away from them more and more... finally got myself banned last night. I'm not sure I am responsible for bringing on any members here but I try to recruit often.

Banned? Tell us more. Hahahaha

Yes please. After I told the former owner to fellate himself and posted a pic of 30 pieces of silver and REQUESTED to be banned, I wasn't. So this should be good stuff

Y’all suck.

I’ve been banned from there 1/2 dozen times already.

I came over from NCGO and have had been back once to post an item for sale. Won't ever go back now unless I need to find an old link or something that I can't remember.

A similar thing happened on Long Island. There was a good forum (longislandfirearms.com) it was very active. The owner let it go and eventually bought by a Canadian company. A few admins started a new forum (longislandgunclub.com) and now it is very active and the old one is mostly a few hold outs.
