I find it amazing that I can remember that after all these years and yet can't seem to remember what I did yesterday. Getting old sucks ass.

Yep, that's him !!! He was buddies with my drill, Sgt Reese. They used to team up during the pit sessions, " island hopping ".

Jacobs was about 5' 11" and kind of stocky. He was also a bit of a shit bird. I'm pretty sure that he got booted after we graduated.

Nah, must be some other guy. The Drill I'm thinking of was taller and had his stuff together. We did have one of our Drills fired in second phase; he was a real piece of work, I have no clue how he passed the schoolhouse !

When I went to his reunion this past year, and his Sgt was talking about Lt Bobo, the room was filled of war hardened Marines crying.
Bobo shoved his half blown off leg into the dirt and used a machine gun to hold off the NVA to save my dad others that day.

I can't remember all my drill instructors but Ssgt Pace was special. We grew up in the same city in FL and actually had a couple mutual friends.

If any of you ever saw a TV show called "Celebrity Fit Club" on VH1, the fitness instructor was a guy named Harvey Walden III, when he was a Staff Sgt, he was my Series Gunny, he was and still is a MONSTER, hell of a nice guy and a hell of a Marine. I will never forget him.

Ah yes Boot Camp, an experience that nobody who ever graduated never forgets, I find it amazing that I can still picture MCRD in my mind the way it was when I was there.

We buried the wife of the oldest Marine in my county on Friday. 73 years together after "courting" 49 days before WWII. I need to get over to see him once I get over this crud. He's right across the street.

I just replied under the prayer section. Please give him a "Semper Fi" from me. I know it may sound ridiculous to some, but it has great meaning to us. Marines are reminded that they are never alone when they hear that, and I think he might could use that right about now.
Thanks !

Last to live in Quonset huts and first to live in new barracks. I preferred the Quonset huts.

I would normally call this "Old Corps", but there's two guys in my Marine Corps League detachment -
one fought through Guadalcanal and the other survived the Iwo Jima battle.
Now THAT is "OLD CORPS"!

When I was in there were an awful lot of guys in that were in WW II. I really thought they were old then. Lots and lots of Korea guys. During the short time I lived in J-ville I lived next door to Jonsey, Chesty Puller's driver. I heard lots and lots of sea stories.
