Hey all. My Alero has had a small crack in the rad for years now. I had just been adding a quart or so every few weeks and all was good, but this weekend she decided to really spew. I’d like to replace the rad next weekend.

I usually buy parts from rock auto. Any idea which would be the best choice? Should I look somewhere else? I don’t really want to do a pick and pull as the price for a new rad seems pretty reasonable to have shipped to my door. They all look pretty much like what is installed, but who knows how close the pics are to what I’ll receive.

I flipped through the Haynes manual just to get a rough idea of what was involved other than screws and hoses. Apparently I have to discharge the AirCon system of refrigerant. That sucks as I’ll have to recharge it. Any way around that?

Thanks!

I wouldn’t use Rock Auto for radiators. I had a terrible experience with them, when I ordered a radiator for my 98 Z71. I ordered one.. easy ordering. Item arrived, with holes in the box. Opened the box and sure enough , severely bent fins . I don’t want to take a chance. I figured 💩 happens, so I went on line and asked for a swap out, no problems. Sent busted one back and a “new” one was sent out. Second radiator received and holy crap it was 10x worse than the first! Literally looked like a forklift blade went through the box! The packing tape was over the giant hole in the box, so most likely didn’t happen in shipping. Opened the box, no styrofoam around the tanks or packing of any kind, like in the first. Hole in the radiator. At this point I wanted a refund. No customer service number to call and the online support was worthless. Ended up having to pay a restocking fee to be done with it. Ended up getting on from a local shop that I could inspect before accepting.

Rock Auto is junk!
