My son Mark David has been doing some research on a company that makes firearms lights and lasers now. Called Olight. A couple months ago he bought me a nifty little flashlight, that charges via a magnetic connection, seems to be the rage these days. Great little light, I forget the lumens, but I keep it on the boat, very handy.

This past week I got a package in the mail with a new little firearms light, but it has a green laser incorporated. 600 Lumens, and its small. Actually a little less bulky than the Crimson trace Laser/Light. And it built about a 1000 times better than the Crimson trace, at least as far as the mounting mechanism is concerned.

Right off the bat, the first Crimson laser/light combo, I broke the damn PLASTIC mount! Not the first one I have broken, they are not designed to be tough! Not only that, but I have been back and forth with Crimson trace since NOVEMBER 2019 to try and get a replacement. Time after time…… And no replacement yet!

I have just about given up on it.

The Olight is all metal, not plastic. Easy to mount with a lever as well, mount is adjustable back and forth as well. I can’t find a downside to this.

Mark got an introductory price on them direct from Olight, at $85.00, extremely decent. However, that is no longer available, and I think sold out in 2 hours time. I found them on Amazon for $129.00 which is way the hell better than the Crimson trace at at $349.00, which I just checked on Amazon and was astounded at the increased price, I am sure I did not pay that at the end of last year.

We shot the Olight Laser this weekend, and it seems to work just fine. I had both boys, Matt and Mark, and myself, and at 7 yards it would keep 5 rounds in a hole and consistent with all three of us. Light is great, I tried it outside and 600 lumens is kicking ass at 25 yards, and it is useable to 50 yards………. Incredible bargain as long as it holds out!

Also, it has a easy switch on and off paddles, and a switch for Light Only. Laser Only and one for both on.

If the Olight Laser/Light holds up, then I have for sure bought my last Crimson Trace. That plastic mount is CRAP on the Crimson, and worse, I can’t get it replaced from Crimson Trace? Now I have expensive Light/Laser and no way to mount it on the guns???? I tried JB Weld, it didn’t hold.

I have been using for several years now the Crimson Trace RailMasters, first ones in Red, but then I discovered the Green, and have mostly green now. Still the mount is Crap Plastic, and yes, I have broken a couple of them. In the beginning from the firearms sites such as Midway ++..... these things were just under $200 each. I finally discovered them on Amazon, some of the first ones I bought 6-10 at a time, were $117. Then the last batch I bought was around $120 each. Thats just the laser, no lights.

I have been combining this with the 800 Lumen Streamlight for the laser/light combinations...........

DSCN0723-X3.jpg

A very good setup and has worked fine over the years. At 800 Lumens I can make shots with the laser out to or around 75 yards in darkness. One year I had an invasion of Fox's, this combination along with 300 BLK and 100 Gr Raptors sorted them out damn good. I remember one week busting 5 of them just outside the door.

This past weekend I was very impressed with the little Olight Light/Laser, even at 600 Lumens. So I got back on Amazon, and found a larger 1350 Lumen Light with Green Laser! Man, this had to be good! And, at $149.00 as well. It you combine the cost of the Crimson Trace and the Streamlight, this setup cost around $250.00.......... I figured to try one!

Sometimes things just doing sort out properly however.............. I received the larger version yesterday, and of course it is easy to mount, strong mounts as well, same lever over on and off system. Looked great.......

EXCEPT........................

DSCN0739-X3.jpg

If you look at this, looks pretty spiffy…… However, the main issue is that, it is too tall, blocks the Magpul Sights! No matter what or how, the irons, (Plastics) are not usable. I don’t like this.

Now, one thing about it, that lever on and off is easy and fast. So if your batteries go to crap, then it can be taken off pretty easy. If one was not in the middle of a battle, it really would not be an issue. OK, but I don’t plan Best Case Scenario.

I tried it on a 475 B&M mounted on the front of the action… I have a 3 slot base on that one. Fits perfect, but once again, irons are blocked.

I thought maybe I put risers under the irons to raise them up a bit. I am still pondering on this as a possible solution, but not really happy with that either…….

DSCN0748-X3.jpg

1350 Lumens is a good light, it clearly defines what you are looking at or shooting at in the damn dark! Man, I wish I would have had something like this when leopard and lion hunting in a damn blind all night, attached to the rifle! HOLY COW, that would have been a trick!

DSCN0746-X3.jpg

However, I won't be using this until I figure out a way to see the irons or other site system on the rifles.................

I don't quite have this one sorted out just yet, and currently thinking that I might just be happy ENOUGH with the smaller version above at 600 Lumens. I don't need to shoot anything beyond 50 yards anyway............ and I might have a solution to solve that next........................

Olight makes nice stuff. @Jeppo is a huge fan. :D

I think I have about a half-dozen lights (none are WMLs) and have also gifted a few.

BigWaylon, I am becoming a huge fan over the last few days..... I got too ambitious maybe with the larger Laser/Light, but the smaller one is great, and I also bought a 1500 Lumen Light Only version which is really fantastic.......

So, let enter the scenario with the smaller 600 Lumen light/Laser. Good to go out to 50 yards no issues at all. Laser seems so far to be stable and holding. So we decide to put the 600 Lumen on a rifle combination, but we find ourselves needing just a little more light......................

Enter the larger 1500 Lumen Olight Valkyrie...............

DSCN0726-X3.jpg

Basically the same size as the Streamlight 800 Lumen. I checked Amazon for new prices on the Streamlight and the new ones are 1000 Lumens and $139.00. The Olight 1500 Lumen is $129.00.

I am pretty much sold thus far.

Some time ago, I decided I needed light on a couple of bolt guns, in particular a Ultimate Stocked 223 and my 7.62X40 also in an Ultimate stock, both of course Winchester M70s, is there anything else?

So, I took one of the rails I had been using for the AR type guns, drilled smaller screw holes, and mixed up some JB Weld to attach the rail to the Ultimate Stocks. So far, it has worked perfectly……………

Now, combine that, with the 1500 Lumen Light, and Wooo Hooo……………..

Where was this when I sit in the leopard and lion blinds? Damn………

Funny, I was just topping off 4 of my Olight flashlights this morning. If you sign up for their newsletter, they run a lot of promotions. Occasionally, they offer items stupid cheap. Recently, they offered their rechargeable keychain light free with $5 shipping. There’s one on every keychain in the family and one in an aluminum pill bottle always in my pocket.

I don’t treat their stuff hard so I can’t attest to the long term durability. But, at their prices, a few years is probably enough. I have yet to be disappointed.

@BigWaylon what color did they ship?

@Jeppo

I ordered one light kit and the free one. The green box says cord included, and it weighs 33 grams vs 27 grams for the other. So I’ll assume there’s actually a cord in it...and the loose cord is the one that comes with the “kit” I ordered. Also finally got a free bookmark without having to ask. :D

There was an Oelite sticker as well...guess so.

I’m guessing yours is black. The pic on my box is actually green, which is why I assume the light inside is. Plus, it says Limited Edition.

I’ve always used Streamlights but a couple of weeks ago I bought an oLight Baldr. So far I like it a lot,
.

OLight = Made in CHINA

Surefire = Made in USA!!

I've used Crimson Trace and Streamlights untill they have failed, but always come back to my reliable USA made Surefires..

@Michael458 I have a flashlight to show you next time I'm over your way.... Ask Billy about my all metal flashlight that has an integral picatinney mount. I think you will like it..! ;):D

I've been a Streamlight fan for a long time. I once saw the little keychain light of @Jeppo 's and was amazed at the brightness out of such a small light. I ordered a few different Olights . I have the little keychain on the charger right now in preparation of the pending hurricane.

I've become a huge fan of Olight products over the past year or so. Their quality and customer service rivals any of the big brands (Surefire, Streamlight, etc) I used to be a huge fan of Fenix lights and Nightcore. However Fenix and Nitecores QC and customer service has seen a decline in the past year.

I have Olight's of all size's and shapes, most recently the Balder Pro and the Odin WML...

I had a issue with the cap on one of the S1 batons that they sent me for free as part of a bundle, the threads on the cap weren't cut clean and it was a pain to get off. Sent a quick email and they sent another one out, no questions asked. Said to keep the other, it just wasn't eligible for any warranty.

I've struggled to not buy a Balder Mini for my EDC G19. My biggest complaint regarding Olight is not with them specifically, but wish holster manufacturers would start supporting them and not exclusively make WML holsters for Streamlight and Surefire.

I got a decent kydex holster on Amazon for my P320 with an Olight. Check there.

Well CRAP. I suppose I should have read the "Fine Print" a little better. This morning I am very disappointed in the Valkyrie 1500 Lumen light, I mentioned above. It appears, according to the fine print, that it will ONLY be 1500 Lumens for about one minute, then it drops to 600 Lumens. This morning after a full charge, mine does not do better than the 600 Lumens...........

"In Light" of this (pun intended) I don't think I would purchase this particular item again. Money better spent on the Streamlight (of which I have a dozen or so and never let me down) instead of this.

Now, with that said, you would also be better off, if you are staying at 600 Lumens to have the small Light/Laser, for the same money.................... Currently I still really like that little unit.........
