Help me spec out a rifle for the games. Looking for something to shoot in the local Carbine matches. I’m not looking to go all out on a super light weight 3 gun rifle but I do want something built with nice components that is a bit lighter than a traditional mil-spec type rifle.

I already have a few Aero and Anderson lowers but will need to buy everything else. I’m really just looking for an excuse to build another rifle and thought you all might like to help me ;)

Saving weight on the barrel and brake makes a huge difference. But when you go to a low mass recoil system it cuts it down even more and changes the recoil impulse into a more pleasant feel, imo.

My two are listed in this thread:
https://www.carolinafirearmsforum.com/index.php?threads/ar-15-parts-build-list-sticky.18646/

I wish you could try them! They both perform very well for the money. Not cheap of course, but not JP/Lancer money either.

I am so in love with the 14" middy! Just feels so fast!
I like that 14”! I’ve been wanting a pin and welded 14’5”. I may go that route. I want something for the CGGR matches they’re having now. I like PCC but a nice Carbine would be mucho fun!

I like PCCs, but running a tuned AR is the funniest thing I can imagine on a range. The performance is just amazing to me.
PCCs just don't got BAM. They go "pop". And plates don't go "SMACK" they instead go "ding", heh.

Sure, Miatas are super fun to drive. Just not compared to a Ferrari!

You are welcome to come to dprc and try any of mine. It would be my pleasure.

I built the 14" specifically for those bay style matches and 2gun matches, which is what I tend to shoot. Or 3gun if distance isn't too great, at which point I'd switch to the 18", which feels similar but has a little extra umph. But I have a lot to learn about distance. I do alright inside 200.

Ill vouch for NKD's build. That thing is freaking sweet. The low mass BCG and buffer make for a sweet shooting rifle.

TBH - I'm getting together some funds to build something similar. Faxon barrel, Taccom buffer, lw bcg, etc.

Taccom over the JP SCS? I have been looking at both. Just ordered a Taccom for my PCC yesterday.

If you use the JP scs, with the JP lowmass bcg, you will likely get awesome results. You can use lighter scs buffer and spring. Good stuff that will cost you.

AIM lw bcg: 119$
Taccom buffer: 25$
Sprinco -10% spring: 9$

JP SCS with spring pack: 170$ +
JP lowmass BCG: 353$ (460$ fornultra lm)

So 155$ ish compared to 550$ ish.

IMO, JP is amazing. It's what I would buy if money were no object.
But it is, unfortunately!

BA is running a 20% off sale store wide.

If you are leaning to a 14.5 pin and weld look at their 556 BA Hanson profile. http://ballisticadvantage.com/14-5-inch-556-hanson-mid-cmv-performance-barrel.html $20 more than what you posted above. profile is better and comes with a pinned lo-pro gb.

Ive got one on a "game" carbine and absolutely love it. A5H2 buffer/ JP OSR spring behind it and a precision armament afab out front. it is a very soft shooter and very accurate with xm193.

I like the looks of that profile better. I wonder why it isn’t available without the gas block? Or at least offer it with an adjustable gas block with additional cost? Seems an adjustable gas block is the way to go for the lightweight game guns, right?

fwiw, i dont run adjustable gas on any of my 556 rifles. i prefer to tune recoil impulse with muzzle device and buffers. this is a highly subjective area, so what works for you may be different.

with that being said, i think adjustable gas on a 14.5in middy would be a waste of effort. the shortened dwell time is going to really narrow down your operating window even before you start to adjust down the gas. it would pretty much require the use of a lightened bcg and buffer.

either way, i can assure you that BA Hanson 14.5 middy is a sweet shooter.

The BA Hanson barrels are cool.
I also don't understand why they wouldn't be available with an adjustable gas block.
Can't get my head around that.

Although, apparently the gas port is sized perfectly and not overgassed like a lot of barrels.

Thom makes some good points. If you are not using a low mass system, adjustable gas is pointless for a barrel that is not overgassed.
But that goes for any size barrel.
Why cut gas if your gun is gassed correctly?
Just need it if you are cutting weight of carrier and/or spring.

All that said, I know plenty of people who blow my doors off that just use a basic non adjustable gas rifles. I'm talking top 3gun shooters.

Can you link these 2? Wanting to repurpose a rifle into a gamer gun but want to make sure I'm looking at the right parts

I just linked Taccom spring. I believe you can get the sprinco yellow spring on eBay as well.

Also, let me know if you need a LW rifle barrel, or .625 gas block. I have an 18” Faxon gunner w/ Apex brake and an SLR Sentry 6 ima bout to put up for sale.

Why you getting rid of it? That's pretty much what I was gonna run but I was thinking 14.5"

Because I have a 14.5” too and just thought the two rifles covered a lot of the same ground.
So I went with a slightly heavier profile for rifle.

The 18” is very handy tho and shoots very soft.

Anyone have any recommendations for a barrel? Would like to have .223 Wylde chambering in 18” with rifle length gas. I was hoping to go with Ballistic Advantage but their 18” Hanson is a mid length gas system.
