Operation Baby Eagle Prep + Quarantine

The hi lift comment was a bit tongue in cheek as it seems like all the wranglers around here have one bolted on somewhere.

I was serious about having a good/better jack than the garbage factory units, especially if you have oversized tires.

Yes. I've found use in the high lift on few occasions but a good bottle Jack is hands down better. Recovery points, straps, shovel, axe, and a tire repair kit are highly recommended.

I agree with trying to avoid traveling I-95 (aka Highway thru Hell) but I guessing travel time with his little girl is a factor. I know if it were me I’d be looking to it. That being said traffic in certain cities (DC, Baltimore, Philly, etc) along I-95 can also cost you a lot even using the “bypasses” during peak periods ... route plannings is so subjective to needs.

I’m rethinking the AR. There are very few situations where it would be useful and the cost of getting caught with it, especially with daughter in the car, are immeasurably high. Consider how the phone call goes to the wife when you’re in jail and the daughter is with child services in a random state. The shockwave is only marginally better. Whatever you take it should be well secured and concealed, you obviously won’t give consent to a search under any circumstances, but still consider probably utility vs risk.

@JimB that was my line of rationale. The likelihood that I will be in situation that merits its use (total butt f$&?) is still much lower than not needing it at all. Therefore, assuming interaction with law enforcement under most probable scenario, chose the load out I’m very much in the clear.

I have print out of my ffl purchase docs from destination state and sales receipt (for both shockwave and g19) plus the printed ATF letter regarding shockwave and a mountain of promotional emails from regular retailers selling the item. Officer would have to be the biggest mega dick on planet to ruin my life over his own ignorance after I make a very easy case for him/her.

Went through some drills practicing access and methods to weapons. I forgot to bring the lock for ammo can so put a lock on top of can just to simulate the time to access separate locked ammo. This is a cold run for me. Took the video to analyze for process improvement on initial plan. I felt need to hit the range not only to test out the dynamics, but also some static refreshers (have not trained with my shockwave or 19x in. while--esp important because I been using RMR sight since...). This drill assumes im in gridlock traffic. Not looking for trouble, I would otherwise never be getting out of my car unless my hand is forced. If not enough room behind my for tailgate I would angle car.

Basic steps:
1. exit to tailgate with lock keys
2. Unlock box with gun, unlock ammo
3. Get one gun minimally operational (in video its a shell in pipe), assess for threat(s)
4. When clear, remove body amor from crate and wrap around seat to protect daughter from what I can't see at my 6
5. finishing loading shotgun and side saddle time permitting/engage any threats as needed
6. Get handgun online/engage threat(s) as needed/ top off shotgun if possible

Major observations:
-ideal waist shooting position w/ 2 point sling (not in video) interferes with handgun because sling needs to be on my right side to provide enough slack
-ideal waist shooting position did not work out well with single point sling either. Single point sling was also very elastic and served little to stabilize weapon like a taught non-elastic strap (such as my magpul 2-point)
-Laseryte did not have great visibility at 15 yards in outdoor light conditions (this was big surprise to me given how clear it is indoors!)
-It was much faster to bring my handgun online first, rather than shotgun. This could be mitigated by having far more training with shotgun manipulation, but for now, mag into pistol first is most pragmatic.

If I fill up right before leaving NC, I should make it past DC. from there should make it to right before NJ. To cut time down, I will lock/unlock ammo can as appropriate at gas stops. All states im passing thru require gun locked, but only DC, NJ and NY also require ammo separately locked. Since this linws up well with gas range, easy to remove that ammo box unlock step accordingly.

Said already, but I'd look into alternate routes.
A-traffic
B-the view

A year ago I was heading out of Fredricksburg VA, 95 was backed up really bad (this was just before Christmas).
My friend suggested I hit 'avoid highways' on my gps and take that route.
His house to mine is about 5.5 hours. Taking backroads - 5.5 hours.
It was the same amount of time with NO traffic and the scenery was much better.
Just a suggestion.

Honestly, I dont worry much about the "NC tag" stuff when traveling, been up and down the east coast (and beyond), never been pulled (knock on wood) because I drive safely and not much over the speed limit.

Go get your girl, safe travels.

Oh, and someone mentioned the silcock key - you can go to Lowes or HD and get one for about a buck more than Amazon.
If you need it quick, buy from a local place

Target filling up in Delaware ... just south of Wilmington and NE off exit 3B there’s a Shell ... if you can. That part of Delaware is about 10 miles of semi-friendly territory (Del recognizes NC CHP’s ... not sure what yours is) between MD and NJ

If your daughter is potty trained, take a portable kid potty. Not a fancy one with holding tank (unless you want one) but just a plastic seat with removable bowl that you can dump out. Then you don’t have to plan your stops as much - you can pull over, let her use it, and then dump it.
I think I have one in the basement that you are welcome to if you’d like it. We kept it in the van at all times (even local travel) until my daughters got older. If they had to go, but we didn’t have (or didn’t want to use) a gas station bathroom, this was a super easy option.

Do you have anyone that could go with you? I would think having an extra person could help take care of the little one without having to stop and also help with the driving. Another set of eyes would not hurt when in enemy territory.

Lord ... I’ve traveled all over the country. And this list makes my head spin. It’s all good though.

Tools are very important but the knowledge to be able to use them is probably more important then actually having them.

Cash or in your case (since you are planning for the apocalypse) gold bricks and a good file to shave them with.

and don’t forget, if you get caught with some of that stuff in the northeast, you’ll spend a lot of time incarcerated. So don’t forget the butt plugs.

Relax, take a deep breath and don’t have an aneurysm over it all. That actually won’t help.

Shooting someone in grid locked traffic with a shotgun will look bad even if you're 110% in the right.

Maybe I'm a fudd, but I wouldn't be caught carrying/using a long gun outside my home or the range. Too many trigger happy cops that are looking to take out the next "active shooter".

I wish the OP the best for a safe trip and return of him and his family, but..... does anyone else think driving to the northeast,... with NC plates,... with firearms and magazines in the vehicle,... and posting the plans to do so online,.... including a video showing the vehicle and tag,........ is a bad idea?

Unless the OP already addressed this, why not just fly and go get her?

You've got a point. Though, not sure about flying right now. That's a gamble.

Yea... the youtube video was a bone head move for sure. lol

This has been an interesting thread, way over the top for the current situation but interesting none the less. I did learn one thing i'm pretty happy about, canister filter adapters for Scott SCBA masks are a thing, pretty cool.

This is the most fuddish thing I have ever said but a lever action in .357/44mag and revolver in the same category would make wonderful travel trunk monkeys for you.

i have the Henry mare leg pistol. Now I have great excuse for a 44mag revolver ...or another mare leg in 357.

If I’m taking that shit out, there ain’t gonna be no legal proceedings. This is a nuclear option. I would imagine the scenario of me taking this out would mean there is equal and more escalated activity going on at large scale. With a gased up 4x4, I may be a target for the “have nots”...

No, been demanding my wife get off then devil pills so I can make her some brothers. Hopefully soon, and then about 15 years to ripen. Ugh.

Because I’m also making the most of this by bringing back some stuff we couldn’t fit in moving truck. Also a bit more control of the situation—if I had my own plane and was able to pilot it, this would be no brainer. But avoiding public trans was also on my mind.

note to self: find used Cesna on eBay to add to my preps lol

This is a good call, just in general for traveling long distance with her. Definitely learned a lot from the CFF community to bolster my plan/preps!

ha, I’m legally all squared away. 10 round mags, shockwave good to go with all documentation in possession as well. i assure you I’m familiar with the laws here.

plenty of cash on hand. On the timelines worst case scenario would unfold hours/days, US currency would almost certainly remain preferred method of payment. If someone tried to hand me gold, I would laugh. I’m not prepared to verify the authenticity and quite frankly if The poop hit the fan so badly people were trading gold, I would give a poop less about a shinny piece of metal, and imagine most others would not either.

If you want ours when you get back home, you are welcome to it. It is pink. My daughters are too big for it now. :)
If you’re not interested, I’ll post it up in the free section here.

I have zero anxiety or qualms posting a video of my intent to follow the letter of the law. Last I checked, I was heading to New England, not Virginia, geez. Good call on LP, will take care of that for sure in future.

but if you are afraid to post videos literally training to follow the law, then the liberals have already won more than I realized.

Responded about first part to different thread. Two major items I had my eye on bringing back, besides my seed, were my expensive weights and my bicycle. Really wish I had the latter during hunting season , would have been a game changer on the public land I hunt. Always next season...

If making those kinda youtube videos are your thing, that's fine by me.

Please take the following as advise not a jab.

I stand behind my comment about the video being a bone head move. Your vehicle make/model/color (which would be easy to spot among traffic), license plate in full view, a full inventory of everything you will have weapons and otherwise in the truck. We know your general stature/description, certainly enough that someone could pass the info along to unfriendly folks/LEO in the areas your passing through. All this posted in the open forum as well, I know we view this site as a family however, there are plenty of lurkers/LEO/govco snooping around here that my have less than the best intent. You might be surprised how easy you and your family could be tracked down (or you may know already). From an operational standpoint, its a terrible move that (while the chance might be on the slim side) could have caused you and your family a mountain of issues, none of which I would wish on anyone. I truly wish you and your family safe travels.

I enjoy privacy, don't use facebook or other "main stream" social media sites. It's a simple personal choice, I assure you bud, fear has nothing to do with it.

Posting videos for any purpose outside the circle of this forum is not my thing. I’m nobody in firearms scene so just for personal use.

I hear what you’re saying, and if I were living up north still using contraband I would agree, but this video, if anything, would benefit my lawyer, not theirs assuming I didn’t do anything stupid. It would be illegal for any local authority to arrest me because I’m federally protected to trace as depicted in video.

believe me, ignorant police scare the shit out of me. Not sure where “innocent until proven guilty” mantra came from but certainly not true now if it ever was. I would get arrested because cop isn’t sure and then I would be out 20k paying one of my fellow Burgsteins to show I didn’t do anything wrong (and not reimbursed for costs to my knowledge).

that being said, I took that risk because in my estimation the risk of needing it was at or greater than 1% which is my general point of moving forward with those types of cost/benefit. But the issue is getting pulled over and them having reason to search (or doing so illegally). I think they have to chase down far more “tips” on a daily basis than to prioritize the “some guy plans to legally transport foreRms through the state”.

I definitely need to be more cognizant of persona identifiers though.
