My scope guru hates anything that isn't made in Germany, so I'm reaching out to wider audience for an opinion on the Burris XTR II Riflescope 5-25x50. Retails for $1100, and is on sale for $500 at Natchez (yes, they're evil).

I can't bring myself to send money to China for a Vortex at high end Vortex prices. At this price for an asian scope (made in Phillipines) it seems to be reasonable.

Any opinions? I plan on mounting it on my RPR in 308.

Its a fairly good scope, but not a great scope.......but i dont think you can do any better for $500.... Thats a great price. Im a glass snob, its the first thing i consider when buying a scope. My XTR2 1x5 glass is on par with my Leupold VX2 1x4 .....which is good, just not great.

I’ve had a few. They’re ok. My gen 2 viper is much more clear. Since you’re not a fan of vortex, give Nikon a try. I’ve had 2 of their black fx1000 4-16ffp scopes. Just as clear, if not more than my viper.
Sportoptics has them under $600 with their discount code

Burris is made in Greeley, Colorado. They are made side by side with Steiner scopes. I am a fan of both! I really don’t think a Burris XTR2 can be beat for $500. JMHO

I have a Steiner P4Xi on my HK MR762 and love it.

I have 4 XTR II in hand right now.
2 of the 1-8x
3-15x
5-25x

I had another 5-25 and 3-15 that both went along with rifles that I sold.

The 5-25 is on my 6.5CM that I've shot out to 1 mile. I have no complaints at all about tracking, clarity or anything else. I really like the MIL SCR reticle.

If the $500 price is for the SCR Illuminated reticle that is an outstanding value that you should jump on right now. They're likely clearing them out because the XTR III is due out soon.

Thanks for the opinions- I now have it in-hand (as opposed to on-rifle), and I'm impressed. It's darn heavy, but it also feels amazing well-built. BTW, mine does say "Made in Philippines" on the bottom. It was a great deal at $508 shipped. I have the lighted mil-dot reticle (non-xmas tree). Agreed about Nikon, I've got an M-series and it's very clear.

Get it mounted up so I can look down my nose at it on Saturday.

I have a couple 34mm / 20MOA PEPR mounts for sale if you have a need.
