Opinion on carrying backup mags for your EDC

Heck, I intend to go to 3 mags for my main and 3 for my back up.

Without revealing too much, what line of work are you in?
a place where the financial undereclass goes when they really need money. we deal with hundreds of them a day.
and by need money, it's often for addiction or heavy use of drugs, booze, etc.

I thought about doing this ^^^^, but figured my health history disqualified me. And with the drama described previously, pretty sure I won't as I tend to avoid situations like that.

Now is the time to take a lesson from our dimocRAT associates. Never let a "crisis" go to waste.
This sounds like a wonderful opportunity to up yer game with a higher capacity CCW.. Then add an extra carry mag..
If there's a "her" in the equation "whoop this out" on her if there's any excess caterwauling.. 😁😁

I have been fortunate as the wife has always been very understanding of my logic and she strongly agrees with me.
Same here. She equates me getting guns to her getting whatever the latest thing she likes is so everytime i get a new gun she gets excited about the endless possibilities of all the new things coming her way.

We'll never be rich but we'll have lots of toys and distractions to keep us busy until it's time to say goodbye.

Well I've just transitioned over from my summer carry to my winter carry. Just in time for an 80 degree NC October weekend LOL.

I generally carry a gun, a spare mag. a backup gun, and often a backup to the backup. I also generally stick to a system that is familiar. Same manual of arms. No external safety, point and click. And I try to stick with mag compatibility (aside from the obvous 442). I'm also a dual wielding knife nerd most days. It's amazing sometimes what I can get away with in shorts and a t-shirt and keep it concealed. On my person at the moment.

Often this time of year I've switched to a G26 with 12 round magpul mags from the G43 with Shield Z9s. But since it's cooler (not really) and apparently also Jihad season I've opted for the G19 with light and optic.

And then since I'm travelling the laptop bag has the backup to the backup. An extra G19 with light and optic. The slides are different on the guns (one Zev, one factory with JaegerWerks optic cut) and the optics are different (507 on one and 508t on the other) but otherwise same/same.

Last weekend we were in Murder Beach and the Ruger PCC rolled with us with a bag full of 27 round mags. Just because.

Running out of ammo the middle of a gunfight and having to ask your opponet to stop is considered bad form and un-sportsman like.

Unless, you're under mob rules and you invoke "Shaning." as your last round.

For the ones saying, "What are the odds?" , my life has always been a statistical anomaly. Even my doctor once said, "You know when they say something works 99% of the time? That holdout 1%? That's you."

Since my edc only has 9 rounds in it, I carry 3 spare 8 rounders.
An active shooter is a small possibility in the town I live but prepare or all possibilities.
A gun, knife, flashlight and spare mag 4 things you should never leave the house without

Well I am all in now. 17 rounds in the main gun with 2 x 17 spare mags and 13 rounds in the BUG with 2 x 13 spare mags. Almost exactly 90 rounds. After that I will have to throw things, probably first the guns and then all the mags...

All on your person? Or some off-body?

Haven't had time to get CCW in NC yet, but for me extra mag is for off chance there is a mag failure. My Ruger LCR in 9mm spare moon clip in a pocket somewhere. Just my thoughts, also shared by others looks like.

So there are a couple different things to unpack, right? One, we are all grown men, carry what you want. Two, is the actuarial sciences, the probability. If you live in a flood zone based on the 1000 year flood, I would also assume you would have life preservers for your family? I mean, statistics and all, right?

Numbers comfort me. They should comfort everyone. I don't carry more than one magazine (the one in the gun) because then I couldn't carry important stuff like, I don't know, gum.

At the end of the day, does it matter, what anyone else thinks? Not really. You (royal 'you') do you and don't worry about what other people do.

Yes, we all assess our own risk and make our own choices. Some find guns that accomodate the way they dress and some dress to accommodate the gun they want to carry. And I think this risk/value is dynamic shifts and changes.

How in the world you guys can ever keep your pants up is beyond me. I suppose if it weren't for some of ya'lls proclivities there would be no market demand for suspenders anymore.

In case anyone's wondering S&W 351c is my standard, no reload, never even consider it.

I subscribe to the SD philosophy that a reload for a revolver should be another gun, and if I need to reload, I'll be hotfooting it back to my car. That's where the "kinda overkill dontcha think" EDC resides. I can barely keep my pants on with all the random crap in my pockets already. If it adds more than about 13ozs to my daily travel, well I rather not.

A proper belt is the first step. 😎

All on me. I know it's overkill but I kept the Bianchi 2" duty belt when I went back from OC to CC and that's where my (now) backup, (previous EDC) rides together with 2 spares. The new main gun is in a shoulder holster with it's own 2 spares. If I am ever forced to take my vest off at work there will be an awkward moment (everything's empty at work, of course).

Yep. When carrying my 19, it's full up with 16 rounds, and I carry a spare 17 mag topped up. Plus, I also always have a Ruger LCP II in the right front pocket. Now I'm trying the P365, it's with the 12 rounder topped full, and a spare 10 rounder, plus the LCP II.
Then there's the AR pistol that goes everywhere with me also. It's equipped with a 20 round mag in the gun, with a few 30 rounders in the case with 28 each. Am I paranoid, nope, but prepared for whatever I may run into.

I was right by the muck when the CMPD shot the dude off of Old Concord Rd. a few years ago. Then they shut down 85 blocking traffic, yanking people out of their cars, and broke into the Fed Ex truck. This went on for a few days. I told Kelly when we watched it happen, that there's no way in hell I'm gonna be a victim of that crap. So in went the AR pistol.

The guy that does some work on my guitars has a shop right beside where they shot the guy. He literally got stuck in his shop that day because of the crap that went on. When he told me that, and how scared he was, it just hit home on how fast bad things can happen.

Maybe (definitely) overkill, but like others have said there's some degree of comfort in numbers.

This fall for me has been: Glock 21 (tlr1 + holosun 407), 13+1 in the gun, 15 rd mag in a pocket, with a Glock 42 in another pocket. My daybag has another 15rd G21 mag (and a 11.5 with a few mags of 77gr...).

The 2nd pistol isn't a backup as much as an option to drop the G21 if I need to tuck a shirt in or do something particularly physical.
