I want to mount an optic on a cheap Beretta 92 clone. milling is not an option. EGW sells a mount that replaces the rear sight and fits the dovetail. Do any of you have first hand experience with this on any handgun?
I repeat, milling is not an option. nor is dumping hundreds of dollars for a new slide. If $100 dont get it done Ill move on.

good idea? bubba deluxe?

From my research it seems that dovetail mounts aren't a great option.

If it's just a range toy go for it. If it's something you will be really depending on I probably wouldent.

I put the EGW mount on a cz. It fit and worked as expected. However it made the sight just a little high and threw things off just enough I always had difficulty locating the dot on a draw. So I ended up taking it off

It's a range toy definitely. So no "dot flew off" or "won't hold zero" feedback? Hmmmmm

No experience, but from what I have seen the EGW work well. I wouldn't hesitate to do it.
Just my opinion, but optic height on a pistol can be quickly trained for and isn't really a disadvantage for most things. The Beretta OR's are already going to be higher than most guns. The EGW ain't much higher.

Actually it looks the same height now that I look at it.

Exact same experience for me with a Kadet kit.

but from what I have seen the EGW work well
EGW is what I'm looking at. They are OOS and their CS dept says they won't make another run of them for 4-6 weeks at least.

No way id go with a dovetail mount. the RDS will sit absurdly high. Mill the slide and get the dot as low as possible, or just don’t bother with it.

Im running a dovetail mount on a G-48, and other than the sight being high, it's held up good. I wanted to try the PA dot for single stacks, and didn't want to mill the slide being it's not my edc, and I'm not planning on running a higher end optic on it.

So, it's been for fun mostly, but I also wanted to torture the RDS before possibly milling the slide. I have beat the crap out of that sight, while it's dovetail mounted, and both have held up and held zero. Go for it, and if it doesn't work, you're not out much dough
